THANKS for all the hard work in finding some of the voting irregularities many have wondered about in the past. I hope it corrects those low votes I'm getting in Entrance. ;-)

To be clear, one challenge wouldn't be sufficient to demonstrate a pattern of abuse. There's more to it than that. Self-correction loosely means that the infraction hasn't occurred in a while, due either to a change in behavior or simple lack of participation.

My buddy only entered one challenge, I'm fairly certain I've never handed out a ten to anyone since?

I'd be interested to know what "more to it than that" would have been in my case and will follow up in PM if it's more appropriate.

Not what I visualized at all. :)

Well, if you're going to start checking for this I guess my idea of starting a voting-ring-for-hire business just went out the window. ;)

Then again...

How about a list of the cheaters. I think we deserve to know who isn't playing fair.

What a shock! People cheating and the DPL had nothing to do with it?!?

Did any of the top results of past challenges change?

Very little. There may be a couple of recalculations run, but AFAIK no ribbons are affected.

This is sad but mostly encouraging. Thanks for the hard work and making this site even better to all fair players here.
03/31/2010 04:04:50 PM · #42
Thanks for getting rid of some of the dirty players. I wish however that it hadn't taken the DPL to bring this into effect. I believe it is something that should be done every 6 months or at the very least annually. Because as you can now tell, It was happening even without the DPL.

Just avoid using Lou Seal (mascot of the San Francisco Giants) ...

A loose eel might be creepy, and a loose seal would be bad for your car ... ;-)

I received a warning. I am extremely upset. I have always tried to play fair, I try convince people to play fair, I try to stick up for people who I view are treated unfairly, and I don't vote on friends images when I know ahead of time. I voted on my 11 year old son's images as a learning experience. I have given him 5s, 6s, 7s, one 8 and one 9. The 9 was for a shot that went on to win honorable mention in a national boy scout photography contest. I don't think that it was unwarranted. The 8 was for a very hard bird capture. All I can think is that it is deemed that his photos, to which I gave 7s, were unworthy, therefore manipulation.

He was given a warning through me. I have too many challenges to check, and he didn't vote much. But I did some searching and found 3 votes. One was a 5, one was a 6, and one was a 10. Amazing. An eleven (ten at the time) year old boy would really like a photo of a cat going after a SPAM mouse (which, btw, received 13 tens.)

I'm incredibly tired of all of this, and I think I'm done. I'm tired of trying to fix things, for trying to stick up for people and for the site, just to get warned that I'm in trouble for cheating. I give up. I've spent the last 40 minutes searching my records and my son's records and crying at the computer out of sheer frustration and this crap isn't worth it anymore.

Have fun everyone. I don't think I want to play anymore.

I am one of the cheaters.

I was told that I am cheating by giving pointandshoot lots of 10s.

pointandshoot has never once shown me one of his photos before a challenge. I give him 10s because his photographs are consistently excellent and brilliant.

If that is cheating, then yes, I am a cheater and I should be suspended.

I've never really belonged to DPC, but I thought it was okay for me to be here as an iconoclast, happily casting my votes according to my own esthetic. But now it seems that this "pattern" of voting is not acceptable.

I was just thinking about this...time and time again, I find that I gave pointandshoot's images highest marks - I don't know they are his at the time of voting, I just love the kind of image aesthetic that Steve consistently produces. I haven't gotten any notification, and don't necessarily expect to, but I wouldn't be surprised if my vote pattern with regard to this one particular user appeared "suspicious" to others. For the record, I feel strongly about voting on images where I either know who did the image or have a "beyond a reasonable doubt" suspicion - I just don't vote those images.

It would be interesting to me, to know from the SC how they determine a particular pattern is accidental/coincidental or something more malicious.

Ah, jaysus... And so the end result of this sort of "investigation" is going to be to weed out those of us who love a particular style of off-the-wall and consistently vote it high? It's just a crapshoot now, living on the edge. I better go check my mail and see if *I* have been notified...

I should be called out for consistently scoring both nixter and pointandshoot very high. I never see their entries before a challenge but find I almost always vote them quite high. I just like the way they shoot.

I just had a thought... you numbnuts didn't suspend pointandshoot for this violation, too, did you? Boy is he going to be surprised!!
