Elements has Curves, you just need a way to access them. My book provides that access. See: //hiddenelements.com

I also added a healing tool called Mend:

And another tool to make images more dynamic:

I'd be glad to add more things if you find you are missing them!

Thank you!! I have one of your books. I feel honored to be in such company. I am going to be ordering your Hidden Elements tonight (someone posted your site for me earlier), although it will be a while until I understand enough to use it all yet! Thanks again!

So is this a post in support of curves or demonstrating that you don't need them ? :)

I saw the original picture and thought it work work well to create a tie-dyed effect; I asked if I could use it try, and got this with just the one curve in the screenshot.

I posted this because I think people should see what happens when you use the tools at their extremes, and as a demonstration of how you can use Curves to affect particular parts of the image. I can't paint (even "abstracts") and I like to play around with curves to create funny colors and "interesting" images from "blah" source materials.

Mostly I use Curves in a more subtle fashion; and in Duotones (based on the same kind of adjustments). Here's some more "extreme" versions:
Original: Monolithic:
Original: Alluvial:
