I'm glad to see so many comments on this challenge. I'm not sure if it's just mine or if everyone else is getting more than normal. My entry isn't that great but I've received as many comments on this one as my two previous highest ones combined. The comments were more constructive and useful they ususally are also. Most of the comments concerned aspects of the image that are very difficult to control during the shoot, but it helps me to be more mindful of them. Hopefully I'll be able to control more and more of those things on later shoots.

Just want to thank everyone for their input.

Mine is hanging at the mid 5's. I thought it was a really good photo until I saw some of the others. Can I blame it on an unsophisticated camera??? LOL

all comment point out the obvious( which i never once saw myself till the comments started rolling in) and one comment was a total shock. I accomplished the look that i wanted but i didnt get my "message" thru to at least one. after the challenge i will explain what that message was to the one who left it( or maybe to all...havent decided if dpc needs to hear it yet)
According to the comments left only one thing is wrong with my photo and i dont see it warrenting such a low score. Shutting up now....

Until after the challenge gaurawa...I'm a baghead :|

Thanks keegbow, I hope to learn from looking at photos far better, and sometimes not better (in my untrained opinion)

Stats: You have rated 284 of 285 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 284 images (100%) in this challenge.

My portrait isn't all that great, but I rarely photograph people. So for me, this challenge has been a challenge in many ways. Honestly, I'm pretty happy with my scores, and the comments I've received have been helpful - so I try to give them back, plus a few...hundred more :-)

Congrats on all that commenting, it's a good way to help you learn.

Well, it would appear that I'm going for my new all time lowest score! ROFL (And it's risen about .4 in the last 2 days!) And I followed my own advice for a change and was very pleased with the final image (although after reading the comments, I see now several areas where I could make a great deal of improvement). So, I'll still consider it a success because I liked it and I've already learned a lot. =D

Jimmy we're in the same boat :) But as I've mentioned previously, this time I'm not concerned about the scores :) I realized that I should just submit something and just have fun with it. My image isn't great at least technically specially if you compare it with my recent portfolio pics but I didn't mind this time. I'm just glad that I got some awesome comments about how they people like the expression and the natural "state" the image was taken in :)

Anyway, here's my dreadful score but as I mentioned, who cares? LOL!

There are about a dozen amazing shots in this challenge. And a lot of very good images as well. I'm so impressed! Nicely done!

Same here but the other way around.
I predicted a high 5 or a low 6, but if this voting goes on like this I will have one of my lowest scoring photo's ever.
I don't understand. I have lots of comments, and every comment says its good, some people mention the word ribbon, but the score just doesnt match up.

And I'll tel ya, it's one of my better shots!
Oh well, at least I like it a lot!

Well, you know what you like and don't like so that's a start. I say dive in. You can at least tell people what you like about it. That is still helpful to folks to know what they did that was appealing to those viewing it. And then if you feel comfortable enough tell them things that don't quite seem right to you and maybe an explanation as to why. That might help them see their picture in a different way, or maybe you noticed something that perhaps they missed.

I think the majority of folks here really like to get comments of any kind. And the more comments you make, the more you will be able to see things in photos that you might have missed or done differently that you can apply to your own photos. I honestly think you learn more when you start to give constructive comments. As you are not personally attached to the photos, you will notice things in others that will help you later down the road. At least that's the way I feel about things. Heck, even a comment like "Beautiful" is helpful in some ways. At least I know the photo touched someone in such a way that they cared enough to tell me. And that's always a nice thing. :-)

I was at 4.8 yesterday. I don't think it's too bad now.
09/13/2005 03:26:20 PM · #23
So far, so good, for my first challenge with a 4.8, especially after viewing the great talent in this challenge.

I have a newbie question, I know what I like in a photo, and feel comfortable commenting about it, but it is harder to define in words what I don't like. Also, being so new, "what the hell do I know"!

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

I've been gone for awhile, but this is how I relate to my scores:

3.0 to 4.5 -- not too good
4.6 to 4.9 -- could be better
5.0 to 5.4 -- fair
5.5 to 5.9 -- good
6.0 to 6.9 -- nice!
7.0 to 10.0 -- w00h00! (never got this far, lol)

There's a lot of competition too. So I would caution folks (especially our newest members) to not sweat the score too much. I always look forward to comparing my photo to those around it after voting is done. Usually it's ranked pretty appropriately.

I know it's hard to watch that 4.x score but try to keep it in perspective! Another thing I do is go and look at some of my favorite photographers. They usually have some sub 5 scores too, so you're in good company.

Ok lets see if I can take my own advice after voting starts on perspective, lol.
