Actually, it was a girl! Haven't spoken to the mom about it yet, but she'll probably want some new baby pics too.

You did wonderfully with the low-key and your goal of emphasizing shape was well met.

Hey wow! Thanks for all the comments, both those that liked them and those that didn't.

What I (and the model) were trying to accomplish is putting the emphasis on the shape of the belly and the curves of the body. To me this just really screamed low-key, not high key.

These were mostly shot using a single stobe, placed just slightly behing the 180 axis, to my left. Pretty much no reflector on the right side, but perhaps on a few. There are also a few here that were shot using natural window light, again turning the model to emphasize the curves of the belly.

Thanks for looking.

Wow! Those are great. I have my first pregnancy shoot this Saturday. I have already printed a bunch of wonderful samples of poses to use as ideas. I just love this kind of photography. I've always wanted to do this, and I'm excited about the chance to finally get to :)

You did a WONDERFUL job!!! They are going to be so happy!

I think the images are beautiful. It is nice to see the sensual, elegant mood. It is quiet and contemplative - very much how I felt when I was pregnant. Not unhappy at all, but very into the moment, like nothing else mattered. I think you really conveyed this emotion well. I left comments on all of your images:-)

You don't get effective modeling of shape like this with high-key.

Personally, I don't see them as gloomy, but using available light to emphasize shape.

I'm on the Prof's side of the fence - I don't think the happy occasion matches the gloomy photos.

I love these. The low key gives a wonderful sense of intimacy, and all the poses work really well.

I disagree - i think they're too dark, brooding, meloncholy - pregnancy should be high key, light happy time.
the first shows part of her head, the rest not. one or two like that might be OK, but this is too many 'body parts' shots for me.

I have to agree, The low light is very nice. I espically like the third shot. Did you get rid of stretch marks or is she just lucky and did'nt get any?

I love the subdued low-key lighting you've used and the poses are quite good.

I had the opportunity to shoot my first maternity shoot a few weeks ago. I finally got around to processing a few shots. Here's what I have so far. I'd love some feedback on these. Thanks.
