My favorite thus far:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/648/thumb/480747.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/648/thumb/480747.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

I always notice this church when I pass it and it saddens me to see it stand like that, year after year. When we had an unexpected snowstorm I thought it would be a really poignant scene, and it was. It scored well for me, so I don't think it was underappreciated or unpopular, but I knew exactly what I wanted and drove over and got it and was/am thrilled with it. Somehow that doesn't happen as often as I'd like ;-)

Jeffrey, Seriously six is outstanding! Nice work!

Hmm. I have several favorites. But here's one:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/60862/thumb/379975.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/60862/thumb/379975.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
It captures 25 years of friendship in a way that's directly relevant to that relationship, where so much time has been spent in spectacular locations together.

As for best, well, this is the best pic I think I've ever taken of a person:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/650/thumb/485167.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/650/thumb/485167.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

I think this is my best:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/408/thumb/258456.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/408/thumb/258456.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
Not because it's the best technical shot I've ever taken, or the most fun, or the most creative. I think the combination of shot/title/challenge made this great. Although the voters felt differently.

Good question, and you're right - what I consider to be my best photo is not my most popular. But there's little doubt as to which photo it is.

I have to choose this self-portrait because:

1) it was one of my first attempts at the "grungy" editing effect
2) it surprised me that I tapped into a deep-seeded emotion, and
3) it served as a catharsis during a rough time for me.

By capturing and displaying my feelings of dispair and depression (thus the "Hollow" name - I felt like there was nothing left inside), I was able to work through it. I've since arrived on the "other side" of that low period and am enjoying life again. My "found" love for photography takes much of that credit, along with an amazingly supportive, loving, & understanding family - and a great DPC community.

I sold a few copies of this one to friends, and I never edited this one. The brown colors remind me of the beginning of Spring, and the onset of warm weather.

I like this one far better than any other pic I've taken. Wish it would have scored better but other than pics of my family, this is the one shot that hangs in my cube at work.

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/679/thumb/513397.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/679/thumb/513397.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Just look at that score histogram and comments and you'll see why I think it's among my best (maybe not technically). It conjured up reactions from across the board from love to hate. That' what I like my "art" to do.

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/513/thumb/352738.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/513/thumb/352738.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

my fav cause I love the silky water shots and this is the first time I think I got it (well other than a waterfall but that was different) close to right. I was nearly sitting in the middle of that creek to get the shot and thought my toes were gonna freeze off lol. I also like the background but as soon as I can I'm gonna see what tonemapping will do for it. I can't wait to go somewhere where I can try this again.

This is my personal favorite because I worked so hard on everything in this photo and struggled heard to learn the how to create a descent seascape. It was my first "over 6" photo. It didn't do that well in the challenge, but it has special memories for me.

Thanks Posthumous and of course I agree but for best I was thinking by DPC standards of best. Hmmm, I should have just gone with the one I love.

I was very new to DPC and digital photography in general. I got the print approved, then it was pointed out to me that the columns are not straight. I redid the image, but thought that it would be difficult to get it approved as a print again (it was extremely difficult the first time). That is why they do not completely match.

Personally the un-straight columns do not bother me.

This one's better:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/1024/thumb/85543.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/1024/thumb/85543.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

' It is interesting to me that I chose this image as it is heavily processed by my standard. I have no objection as to anything people do to their pictures but I personally rarely do anything more than crop one dimension and maybe a little bit of levels. I look at my images and have no idea what to do to them so I do nothing. I have recently been wondering if I should be paying more attention to post processing. That is why I find it interesting that this, my most processed image, is the one I chose.

edit for my perpetual typos

My absolute favorite, although it did not do well in its challenge.

This is what I consider to be my best photo because of the over-all technique (exposure composition) but i love the no smoking sign on the back ground that says sooo much about the subject and his demeanor. A hell of a catch considering this is a random guy i stumbled across while out shooting landscapes.

It has never been in a challenge, but I think it is my best image due to the fact it was choosen as "Kodak Photo of the Day", which gave me a huge thrill, and aIso I just love it.

Even though it is an older one, it is still one of my faves. Yeah, it has some small imperfections (antannae hidden, sand on thumb) but I think the flaws work in this case to make the viewer pay closer attention. I also love the compostion and the fact that I had the butterfly on one hand and was taking the pic with the other :)

This is probably not my best nor my favourite but it is the one that comes closest with a poor score. I was happy with the outcome given the ruleset (minimal) and I also liked lots about the image itself. I knew it would be touch-and-go to get a good score as it was OOB for the challenge but I never thought it would end up where it did:
