Sounds good!

But is it portrait form? or actual portraits?
11/01/2010 09:32:32 AM · #2
When I first read it I thought actual portraits but now you have me thinking it could be portrait form.

I think it is more of a series of three portraits in a story board fashion that tells a story or goes together. May be wrong but that is my thinking.

maybe something similar to this but with more story telling?

Is the Border Patrol up to the task of voting and commenting on this one?

I love this so much and I have the best idea ever! People might not like it or get it, but I'll be pretty damn satisfied if it turns out the same way as in my head!

I live triptychs and portraits - this is my challenge!!!!

Alright, I am trying to be subtle...but its still pretty obvious...

Hypothetically... ;-)

If one had just recently discovered one's own unique style that appears to be well liked but is completely different than what other people are doing on this site. And this "style" would lend itself PERFECTLY for this challenge, Buuuuut this "style" was just recently successful and it would be really obvious who the photographer was.....Would one still be allowed to submit such a photo? Or does the "obviousness" mean that one can't?

Hypothetically, say that you know someone by his/her face (but only from self portraits in the past) and s/he is submitting a self portrait (which happens a lot), do you think that is ok? If yes, you have the answer to your question.

I think it's ok, your personal style shouldn't be a reason not to submit a picture, just because some people might recognise it. I don't think I would, and I don't think that I'm alone.

If there was a proscription against this, half my ribbons would disappear in a puff of smoke :-) Don't worry about it. Plenty of our better-known members are instantly recognizable by style, subject, or technique.

I'd say if that were true, Art would have to stop his woody entries, and Spiff would need to lose the shoehorns...

and coley's trees and umbrellas would be banned. Although.... considering how wonderful they are, it might not be a bad thing. :)

I'd like to know the answer to this too. So far I am not seeing it?

Yeah, and you'd need to lose the seagulls and bluebirds.

Lucky the one who has found its own style !
If "obviousness" wasn't allow, how could we do selfportraits ? lol
If you already have the idea, go ahead with it ! And good luck !

So ...... any concensus yet on whether this challenge is actual portraits or just portrait orientation? My initial interpretation was actual portraits, but after this discussion I'm not sure.

I've already submitted an entry! Entry # 1

Enter what you like, but my guess is actual portraits will win the day.

the description:

"Create a portrait triptych that tells a story."

If you can read into that description "portrait orientation of anything", then knock yourself out.

Apparently not all of us. But that would certainly be the consensus...

For those who believe it means "a triptych in portrait orientation", I offer the thought that this would mean, could ONLY mean, 3 horizontal images stacked into a portrait-oriented composition. So 3 vertical images combined into a landscape triptych would be DNMC. Just sayin'....

gawd!

I'm waiting for the first person who asks if a Pet Portrait meets the challenge...
