The results of the "John Lennon Song or Lyrics" challenge have been recalculated, due to the disqualification of the former 2nd place winner for failing to provide a valid original. Congrats to our new ribbon winners!

I just sent a reply email. The reason for the DQ is that they are saying I didn't submit my original photo, but I did. What the heck happened?
when I won, it gave me a link on the left side of the home page. I clicked on it, submitted the photo and a description of process and sent it. It showed on the left hand side what I sent below my edited version. What did I do wrong?

Edited for kindness!!LOL HI AGAIN MANIC!!!LOL

The most likely reason is that the file submitted was not considered an original for some reason. If so, you should have received a second request for an original.

The same Message that I needed to submit was dispayed on the home page, but everytime I clicked on it- I saw my "original" entitled photo submitted underneath the edited one saying "received". But I never received any email regarding it not being considered an original???

Hmmm- wierd!

I wonder if there is a problem with you receiving e-mail from DPC? The SC is very diligent about trying to contact folks when there is a problem with a submitted original.

Yea, they are good with it. ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/user_id/749.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/user_id/749.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Manic has helped me out with other issues I've had before.
I look at it this way, Easy come easy go! LOL I'm sure we'll figure something out. Afterall "Give Peace a Chance!!"hehehe

You should contact them and find out what the issue was; if your submitted original was for some reason invalid, the problem might affect future originals. It also might be possible for you to submit a replacement original and reverse the DQ.

A "re-request" was sent, and apparently you did not get it. :(

(to all users) If you have comcast, they periodically flag dpc as spam. With some others, you may have to manually/deliberately "allow" mail from dpc. It is impossible for us to know if you don't get it (it happens) or if you are just ignoring it (that has happened as well).

Isn't the request sits on the first page? Even though you don't get the eMail, you should be able to see the request with bold letters on first page, until you submit it...

No, Unfortunately not. Just JPEG. I had issues converting the RAW and never went back to figure it out. Why do you ask?

Yea, but for whatever reason, it doesn't seem to be communicating very effectively.

It did happened to me too a couple of months ago, however, I check my entries (with originals) often. Second time I went there, my original wasn't there, so I resubmit it.
I think it's a program error somehow!

I just went through it again and there's nothing in spam.
I got emails all week long getting congratulation comments and just went though those again but nothing regarding disqualification... well, except the one from today! :(

Not sure what happened. Is there a chance to resend the original and show you proof?

if you take pictures in RAW, the files aren't changed...it's an "insurance policy" per say for me...JPEG is to easy to bugger up unknowingly,

bit me in the keister...the program that I was using (Picasa) changed my original file and I did not know that...I now do a very convoluted download directly from my camera to the computer (actually it's not hard, I just do 3 copies on 3 different HD's) and I now shoot RAW only (which does not get altered), since then I haven't had any problems being verified...but I still hold my breath until the validation comes in, every time....

I hope you can get it reversed....good luck

*** ATTENTION ALL DPCERS... ***

From your card or camera, use only "File Manager" to copy your files into backup folders manually.

DO NOT work on your original copies on your computer, make a second copy of all the images for the challenge, and work on those, keep a set of originals ALWAYS.

Find a good "Card Recovery" program. Most of the time, even if you format your card, you still CAN retrieve your originals.

Just another quick tip, usually formatting does not get rid of the files in your card, rather deletes the headers of the files so that space can be used if needed.

I hear ya. I gotta start working in RAW some time to have some more control over my photos.
My D50 calls them NEF files but (at least time I tried) I couldn't even open the files to view the photos.
Is there a free converter to download? (I'm working with a REALLY old Adobe Photoshop program that doesn't have a converter)

GOOD TIP! I always copy my originals over first, then work with my post edits with a seperate file name.

I'm using PS Elements 8, it has a built in converter (7 did too), it's only about $59...worth every penny (they now have Elements 9 out for about the same price if you shop it) if you are using a very old CS program Elements 9 would be a step up...maybe??? and you could do your conversions very easily...

' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' FocusPoint has given a much better step process of what you should be doing (and what I do) with your downloads

Speaking of original copies I still have the original on my camera card. I can save it to the computer again and resend it if that helps.

You should download Nikon's ViewNX which is a RAW reader/converter. It's free and should have come with your camera. If I have to do a batch convert, I use that. Very simple interface. You can do editing in it as well, but I prefer to do that in Camera Raw that comes with PS.
