Moving up? You trying to win a brown too? What was your low? Your in the fence challenge right? We get to go head to head. Call Rugman and tell him to get in this one. He can take a photo out his back door.

4.9 should be enough to get me higher than a brown...I hope.

I'm in the fence challenge....one of my specialties.

Rugman1969 doesn't want to enter for some reason....strange b/c we talk cam sometimes. One on the SSRs got a Nikon and he's been fired up. In fact, we were all out in the parking lot Friday taking "special effects" shots.

Which SSR? New guy? Y'all got him on here yet? You won't get brown that score.

There was a pretty large gap for my photograph between the votes from participants, and the votes from non-participants. I think it was by far the largest gap of the challenge.

Avg (participants): 4.6207
Avg (non-participants): 5.6872

Can I ask for some feedback from some of you who did participate in this? Is it simply because it's abstract, or are the technicals/story/mood/emotion/expression flawed somehow?

I mentioned earlier in this thread about struggling with the title. does the title work?

edit::
I don't want to sound like I'm bitching, I'm okay with my score, I'm just a bit confused about the large gap, and about how the photograph was (in general) received/interpreted.

Mine finished at 4.9653, which is better than it deserved. After the first day of voting I decided that the shot was crap and, again, wondered why did I enter this. Does anyone else do this, enter a picture just to enter?

I knew I should have used the New Orleans shot glass. It has boobs on it.

Hmm...well I gave it a 5. It's not a fantastic shot, it's not a bad shot. It's...a 5. There wasn't a whole lot that jumped out about it for me, in terms of art or photography. I didn't get much of a story/mood...anything from it. If it wasn't entered in the shotglass competition, I would have no idea what I was looking it. Which is fine a lot of the time, but if that's the case, the subject has to be interesting enough to pull that off. I don't think the subject is represented in a way that is all that interesting. There isn't really one part of the photo that my eyes want to rest on. I can also see dust or something on the rim. It just seems like it could use some colour or sharpness or punch or something. Or maybe the background could be lit better or something. I do like the title, but I am not one to let a title influence my perception of art/photography. You could have named it "pile of poop" and I would have given it the same score.

As I'm writing this and going through your other photos, I feel like reminding you to keep your audience in mind, and think about how YOU would react to your photography if you HADN'T taken the shots and worked hard on them and were not attached to them in any way. As impossible as it is, try to be objective about your work and see what others will see.

Having said THAT, screw what everyone else thinks if you're having a blast doing what you're doing. :p

I am by no means qualified to critique photography at this point and usually refrain from it because of lack of skill and experience, but I participated and voted in this challenge, and so this is my honest feedback. Hope it helps! :)

I did enjoy a few of your photos on your website, so keep at it! :)
