I have not voted yet so I wasn't the one dropper but having looked at the thumb nails I have noticed that there are some really cool shots but also a number of major shoehorns that really deserve ones.]

Ok, the DPC trolls have beaten me once again. 4.667 on shot I went out of my way for, it fits the challenge well, is not a crap photo.
Once again DPC has become an annoying experience, I'm not expecting ribbons, but maybe some respect.
I think I'm going to agree with Steve on this one.

No reason for me to take the time and effort to enter here just to make some jerk with a bad life feel better by slamming images and tossing 1's.
I am sorry that most people are suffering and have horrible lives and especially that they feel the need to hurt random others instead of pulling all of us up together.

Enjoy your life and your days, and if they suck, make a change, taking a dump on your neighbor wont help, in fact it makes things much worse.
If you will excuse me, I have some windmills to go visit and photograph, its a lovely day here, and the people are nice and friendly :) I give them a 10!

yep my next vote dropped me down 0.25 so I fully understand. Im pretty sure it is obvious my shot is of something that begins with a C but ya never know.... might need a bit more S_P_E_L_L_I_N_G out

Now wouldn't that be the clue? Someone tossing 1's all over thinking by himself: "clothes - that's spelled with a K!...Gosh, all those images which do not fit the challenge!!"

Oh, I can handle the occasional 1 vote. There's always someone who feels it's justified. Maybe something about the entry offends them, or they are making a political statement with their vote. Often it is someone using the scale as ranking system, and if yours has the least appeal to them it gets a 1. It's the 5's that often kill you, though. It says "Just ok, but not really grabbing me any".

Gone up to about what I expected for this on the mass appeal meter. Anything beyond this is gravy.

So can I, but the myopic eye of the DPC voter is not just short sighted, I think they are blind. Or they consider this a "match a snapshot to a challenge description" contest.
I joined for photography, to learn and explore more about photography and to have interesting conceptual challenges to encourage and expand my camera's view.
The fact that the highest scoring shot ever is Langdon's pool ball says volumes! It is ok, but not even close to the best shot on here.
I do not understand why image quality and photography plays such a small role in this community. A great photograph deserves at least an ok score.
It must take a very uncreative brain to think that the best image for this challenge would be a large "C", perhaps from a Costco sign.
Such a "rules beat value" mentality, I think, is the negative current running through the world right now. As if making something legal, it becomes morally correct as well.
Morality and art are similar, neither is black and white, neither scales well on a 1 to 10 system.
The fact that the DPC voting community is stifling to creativity is not a new thought, it just needs to talked about until more people take the time to educate their minds.
I see so many wonderful and unappreciated images on this site, I think the main reason is revenge on society. It is a minimal revenge, but if you read the dozens of threads about low scores you can see that the trolls do hit a nerve, they do make people sad and have a worse day when they had been looking forward to that score, expecting at least a 5 and then, ugh 4.x So I understand the reason, it is effective, they get to read the painful reality forums of the hurt.
It is just a sad day that this is the solution for a broken life. (if it makes you feel better, the clouds came in early and I did not get to go into the Dutch countryside today.)

I get 5's all the time. Maybe it is time to let the message pass in my head and understand what the voters are trying to tell me: sell my stuff and look out for another hobby. Maybe I can start knitting :D

My observation has been the opposite. A visually strong entry will do well even if it fits the challenge only marginally, as opposed to a weaker image that fits perfectly.

Briefly hit the 7.x mark only to be hit 2 mins later with a vote that dropped me down to 6.8... bummer.

I know you're kidding, but, underneath it I'm sure there's also a grain of truth there. I often used to feel the same way. The thing is, I've gotten past the need to worry about the scores. I shoot what I like, I process how I like, and I put it out there for others to love, like, dislike or hate as they please. It doesn't effect me because I already achieved my joy in taking it. My score usually fall in the low 5 range, but I've had my share of 3's and I made it all the way to a 7. I'm not a pro. It's a hobby that I enjoy, nothing more. And I refuse to let anyone spoil it for me.
