It is always on :) (addiction problem)

I think you have to actually be logged in 24/7. If it's on only when you're logged in it misses votes and gets skewed.

My PC is 24/7, we have students (micquality.com) all over the world. Sometimes I answer calls at 2am! (not much fun as I have to sound awake)

6.06 after 53 votes.

I didn't know what I had to expect from this image. I guess is pretty good, but as I told Christophe before, it's a matter of titles this time.

It's doing a little bit of dancing, but it seems relatively steady at 5.9 and there abouts.

With more members unhappy with the "unsupportive of creativity" nature of this site, it seems to me the slow decline in participation and votes will only continue.
I'm debating removing my Sherpet entry just to not fuel the hate that lives here on DPC. (its not quite hate, but it definitely not love!!)
Not sure if I will take the time from my life to vote on any entries now, and I have been a 7+ average voter for awhile...
One less vote, one less entry, some will say it matters not, but they also probably believe their chosen politicians.

You can't unsubmit!! A lot of DPCers are still on holidays hence low voting but this is the challenge to be in!!

I've 161 votes in the time challenge so far. That's by far the most I've had in a long time!

I actually think that the site has been more open to creativity over the last year. I think the voters are more harsh on everything, but I'm seeing photos in the top 10 that I don't think would have made it there when I first started.

Just looked at the average number of votes in the history, the recent Pattern IV was the first one I can see that broke UNDER 100 in average votes at 99.
I'm still new to this site and like the community and challenges, but I see the decline, I can look at the history.
I also am one to complain about the "iron box" that the average literalist DPC voter confines themselves to and the harsh voting this digital contest endures.
If no one stands up and points out our naked emperors, we all end up living like fools in a pit. I like the sun and the warmth of a smile and love personally.

Of course amsterdamman is right. I'm sick of people voting whatever they feel like. What are they thinking??? This site is nothing more then a sham of the point greedy wealthy. The top pictures aren't better they just get better scores. It's obvious how unfair this system is. What we need here is an even distribution of the votes from the high vote getters to those less talented. I mean ribbon challenged (Like myself of course.) Ribbons should be awarded to those that had a really good idea, even if they can't manifest it in a photograph.
So we must rise up and and demand our fair share of 6 and 7!!! If we can't get them then NOBODY should have them! The site council should immediately step in and control the voting or throw it out! What good is it anyway? Take the points from the point wealthy and distribute them NOW!!! It's only fair.

If the site council can't get our act together then they should be removed and replaced with people who can fairly redistribute the points. Of course the new site council will be hard working and they should be given extra points for make this a fair site.

If the site council refuses to step down then we really need government intervention. Only the government can tell us the proper way to think and vote.

Kimon, I think we should not forget that we're in a holiday period. People away for holiday = less votes (and less entries as well normally)
There's also the fact that an amount of people don't vote on a challenge they don't feel connected with (and again don't enter in that given challenge).
Next to those people, a lot of people only vote on the minimum of 20%: they pick out the entries they like and give a score. Or they pick out those they don't like and vote (to make sure the image stays low?)

Anyway, I'm convinced that this particular moment of the year is not to be seen as a reference point in the yearly challenge history. Neither is any other moment of the year covering a holiday.
But I may be mistaken of course.

clap. clap. clap bravo, I applaud your skillful retort.
Although, to be fair, I advocated none of your semi sarcastic rant.
I am for tolerance and open mindedness and appreciation of art and creative ideas.
Over reaction and throwing of insane illogical rants is a very common tool of the modern "debate" but it has little to do with the issues at hand.
It does, however, help to continue to turn off and away members of the community. The silent ones are always in the majority, when they leave, it is truly quiet.

That's a joke, right? Sharing the ribbons to everyone to be what? Nice about the whole thing? Ribbons are earned through hard work and skillful photography mostly. Because you don't have them doesn't mean your photos aren't good, as you say. And there ARE ribbons given out by individuals here who feel a shot deserves them. Not official, of course, but they are there. And lots of them are there too.

That sort of nanny-rewarding will completely distil and dilute the reward or winning a ribbon.

What would this teach us? Don't achieve your best and you'll still get top place? Achieve your best and don't get top place.
Not saying DPC should teach us life lessons, but that suggestion is ridiculous if I understand you correctly.

It was a joke I take it on a re-read :-)

No.... Whining and complaining about what you get in votes is what suppresses freedom of thought and voting. People vote what they want to vote. You what them to think and vote differently.

It's OK to think and like a more creative style... The whole point of the extremely creative style is that "It isn't for everybody". So if that's what you want to do then you are going to more polarizing. There are several photogs here that rarely or never ribbon but they have a beautiful and unique style. So what's your style.... Go with it. Be brave and think for yourself. However don't complain when everybody doesn't move in your direction. That's the fun of the road less traveled... Be yourself. We'll be waiting to see what you brought to the table after the challenge...

True statement. Regardless of the arguments about the site council, voting trends, or challenge options.

Less participation and Less votes as a whole.

Here is the upswing: Higher Quality shots. Period. What would have scored a mid seven when I first was led to this site in 06 would not even score a 6 today. That is not due asshole voting, but rather due to higher standards created by an excellent core community of phenomenal photographers, who have raised the bar on this site. This unfortunately may create an air of elitism with newer photog's who don't understand why they are tanking (especially at first), but it creates a place where I am regularly wowed by the submissions.

The only advice I would give the S.C. that has not been repeated 800 times before (and maybe this has been, lol) would be to create (very occasional) exclusive challenges that would be opposing free studes where one can only be entered by previous ribbon winners--maybe honorable mentions--and the other can only be entered by non ribbon winners. Or you could pick an average score and do that. . .etc. The winner of these contests would not be given a STANDARD RIBBON, but some kind of derivitive one for those kinds of contests. . . or maybe I'm not very clever at all. . .hmmmmm
