Just got an anonymous(hidden) comment and it's obvious that whoever it is hasn't got much of a clue about the rules of photography at all or at the very least adheres so rigidly to some of photography's basic conventions that he/she is blinded by the fact that in many cases a certain image benefits by breaking with those pre-conceived rules and results in a far more effective image then would have been the case if one had not done so.

^^^i think that's the longest sentence i've ever seen.

i know where you're coming from, though. seems to be some really critical voters out at the moment.

A very nice baghead said Top three...Wonderful. Lol, and double lol

..... and my score is 4.78. That does not compute.

Wow. Lots of low averages being posted. If anyone is up in the 6's, they are not telling. I climbed to something reasonable overnight.

Guess I can't complain... not bad for an open challenge - and I really wasn't expecting this much.

some nice work in this challenge, but it seems a lot of folks overcooked the processing and didn't let the scene breathe

I understand what you mean about overcooking, but what do you mean about "breathe"? Cropped too tight?

I love ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Jutilda she's the best, she bumped me to 4.85, I'm on a roll.

I think that mine is in the "overcooked" pile. It was shot yesterday and processed about an hour before rollover, which is not always a good idea. In daylight, it looks pretty juicy. It has plenty of "room to breathe" though.

There is some of that in the challenge but that is not what I was trying to say.

What I meant is that the overcooking creates a loss of the fine detail, the subtleness of landscape, the shape, the play of light. The overprocessing gives the images a 'knock you over the head' feel. I want the scene itself to breathe...and those overcooked images lose that.

Makes sense. Problem here is that "knock you over the head" is what sells. I'd be curious if you feel my image is overcooked or not. I may ask your opinion after the challenge if I don't get a comment from you during.

A couple of days ago every 6 was hurting my free study. Now with this one I'm grateful for every 5. I considered pulling my entry last night because I knew it wouldn't do well, but it's doing even worse than I expected.

Sitting at an even 4.000 right now 30 votes it. I was at a low of 2.5000 at one point and was at least hoping to capture the brown... now I'll just be the lower end of the pack it seems with nothing to show for it... :)

Seeing how the voters are passing the joy around for landscapes might be cause to reconsider what to put in the upcoming "Spring" or "Autumn" challenge.

Slowly climbing upwards. Not sure it will ever reach a respectable level.
