Hi everyone, I've got a few pictures ready from my recent holiday in Scotland...

Scotland positives:

Sunsets: the colours are amazing... no PS necessary for any sunsets in Scotland!

Camping: We camped for 8 nights which is our record. We really enjoyed ourselves... even when pitching up in the rain. Well done us.

Cycling: Some gorgeous scenery to take in, and the cycle routes are excellent.

The Beer: Wonderful ales.

Scotland Negatives:

Closing Time: Everything shuts ridiculously early. This is annoying when I've driven for hours to get somewhere which shuts 2 hours before it says it will in the 'Lonely Planet' guide.

Distance: Everything is so FAR! I drove 2,500 miles in one week!

Photo Shops: Not really Scotland's fault, but the shop where I backed up one of my SD cards onto CD using a Fujifilm machine actually butchered my pictures by compressing and sharpening them. The levels were also changed. 200 pictures are now of poor quality. Needless to say, I'm not impressed.

Rain: Hard to enjoy Scotland when it's raining all the time. There's not really much to do when you're a long way from any cities and it's pouring it down.

Anyway, here are the pictures. Please leave lots of comments!

Wonderful pictures. The one with the sheep and the horse is really a beautiful shot. Good to hear that your holiday was a successful one. Thanks for sharing those images.

Fantastic shots; you really captured the essence of the Highlands. Better than a lot of Colin Baxter.
PS August has been an unusually bad month for the weather AND we have 24hr shops in Edinburgh!

Thanks, although if you look at the photography of Michael MacGregor who seems to make all the really good postcards in Scotland, I think I have some way to go! //www.michael-macgregor.co.uk
We were particlularly unlucky for weather, having just missed a week of REALLY good weather when we got there. Unfortunately Edinburgh was too far away for us to visit from the Isle of Skye and Loch Ness which is where we were for most of the time.

I love the butterfly black and white. It's magical.

Nice to know you enjoyed the experience Bob..despite the weather.
The biggest surprise to me is that the dreaded "midgie" doesn`t get a mention in your "Negatives" column..??
If you had been up here in June, you would hve had a marvellous time as the weather was superb.

I envy you doing what you did..as I have always intended to do something similar..but the bones are getting too old for it now, however,I fully intend to get myself out into the wilds in September/October when the foliage is on the turn as there are some unbelievable pics to be had at that time of the year.

I will leave some comments on your shots individually..but I must say, you have managed to capture some of the allure and majesty of Glencoe in your "View from Kingshouse"..what a place that is..I could spend a week exploring the mountains of Glencoe and still have lots left to capture...if there`s a more imposing sight than a snowcapped Buachaille Etive Mor in the fading light of a winter sunset..I would like to see it.

Great stuff..thanks for sharing it.

Thanks so much for your many comments... I have replied to questions in a couple of them. I did forget to include the midges (little aggresive buggers!) in the negatives, but I found that I got used to them after a few days... especially when composing photos with my camera!
There are 2 things I really missed doing in Scotland due to the poor weather... I really wanted to climb some mountains and see some puffins, but this wasn't meant to be.
Good luck with your expeditions in September/October.
