anything to do with a grocery store or convenience store. the outside, inside, items sold, the types of things you see (for example, that big Guy bending over to get bread and his thong showing... lmao)...etc.
advanced editing.

could be interesting

Forgive me if I am kinda late to the party on this but isn't it illegal to shoot inside of a grocery store?

Outside of one would be cool to shoot, though...

I do have 1 request....No pics of a fat guy bending over with his thong showing.

That's just scary

perhaps that would do better to the "fear" challenge suggested. lmao

I have sneaked photos in grocery stores and other shops, but it is illegal if they don't want you to. I got warned off by a security guard recently in Central Square, an indoor shopping mall. I had my camera around my neck. He did acknowledge that my lens cap was on, but made it clear I couldn't take photos. (Although I feigned innocence I have taken pics in there before.)

This is a great idea. One of those boring topics that can bring out creativity.

so then if people are worried about it being legal, ask permission first. technically that's what we were supposed to do for the candid shot, right?
anyhow... and if you get warned about it, kindly follow their rules.
easy enough.
I figured it actually cuts down on the "free study" of the general challenges we've had lately.

I asked permission for the dessert challenge. Nice place with gorgeous desserts.

No go.

Absolutely no photos inside the store.

It varies though ... there's a large store nearby which specializes in carrying a huge variety of sometimes exotic produce, and I've asked for and gotten permission to shoot some of them, even for stock.

What they really don't want is commercial espionage by competitors, checking out displays, ads, and prices ...

I can understand that.
so don't go in looking all photograper-like, LOL. go looking like a complete amateur... act like you're taking a pic and leave the lenscap on... a few times (they will surely not think you're professional then, haha).

Maybe to make the challenege "easier," it could be a cameraphone challenge, or P&S.
thoughts?

and @General: that's an awesome macro shot. never even heard of that fruit before, quite interesting.

Just FYI - this isn't illegal. They might ask you to leave, but being arrested (at least in the US) is absolutely out of the question. They can't even make you delete the pictures.

Now, whether that's a fight worth fighting is another question.

Is it the same in every state?
I know in Canada Quebec has different laws compared to Ontario. In Quebec, regardless of use, each individual person in Quebec is allowed control over the use of their image. The Supreme Court of Canada upheld this in Aubrey v. Edition Vice-Versa Inc. In Ontario, they do not. An individual would have to sue you under civil court for use of their image. If you're not getting any monetary gains from their image or doing anything which can be construed as libel, chances are they're simply wasting time and money.

Like ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Cory mentioned, you can always take the first photo. There's nothing they can do to stop you. After taking that first photo, most places either ask you to stop, which you don't have to do, or they ask you to leave the premises. Normally if you don't comply with the former, the later happens immediately. At this stage you do have to leave the premises as trespassing is illegal.

They may be able to sue for the use of it, but good luck suing anyone for just taking it. Plus we're talking about veggies, not people. (not that there's much difference in some cases.)

Heh.. I'll be doing this one if I can..

hehe, I didn't know this was ilegal. Things might have changed, because I took this picture two years ago, inside a well known grocery store and the employees where very nice, not a single complain or warning of any kind.

Awesome!
Now... I'll be headed to the store today.
can't pass up this challenge since it was my suggestion.

I can't see any creative way to do this kind of shots and I'm quite sure that in Italy we are not allowed to take pictures in convenience stores. I will search for an idea but most likely I won't submit anything.

Yeah, definitely gives you cred to take part in a challenge you suggested...:-) FWIW if I am going to be taking pix in a place where I think management might have a problem with it, I approach them and explain that I would like to take photos for a contest and that the resulting images will not be sold. Usually I am then given free rein. (Being female seems to help too, I will resort to batting my lashes at them - all's fair in love and photography!)

There's nothing that says the photo has to be taken inside the store. In the US, and most countries, a photograph taken on a public sidewalk is perfectly legal. Storefronts are full of possibilities.

Here's some inspiration (not my work).
