Nope that isn't the irresponsible way to do it. According to the professionals at New York Institute of Photography the best thing to clean a lense with is a soft tee shirt.

No way.....how come? wouldn't it get scratched? what about greasy marks? (my lense is spotless...) one particle on the shirt which isn't dust, and the lense would be doomed

lighten up a little would ya...the cleaning clothes they sale in the store are nothing more than soft cotton fibers....which are exactly what a tee shirt is made of. You don't go and use the shirt that you just changed the oil in the car with either though. I've shot with several professionals and i've seen them steam up the lense using their breath and wiping it using there shirt or an old towel.

Those clothes are just a over priced marketing ploy.

New York City judge Laura Blackburne came under fire from the police in June when she helped Derek Sterling (described by police as a "convicted drug dealer" but in a rehab program) escape out a side door of her courtroom so that he could avoid a detective poised to arrest him for a May robbery. She said she was angry that the detective didn't clear the arrest with her in advance. (Blackburne was already notorious for recently releasing a man charged with attempting to kill a police officer, ruling that he had not received a speedy trial.) [New York Times, 6-11-04; New York Post, 4-17-04]

* Cynthia Gorden filed a lawsuit in Chicago in May asking a judge to prevent the airing of her appearance on a "Judge Mathis" syndicated television show (for which litigants audition to appear in person in a raucous courtroom setting, making their arguments and allowing Mathis to render a decision). According to the lawsuit, Gorden, who came on the program to aggressively sue her own mother, said it was the program staff's fault that she wound up embarrassing herself. [Chicago Sun-Times, 5-10-04]

The obviously inexperienced Bradley S. Shugars, 21, was arrested and charged with robbing a Phillips 66 gas station in Avon, Ind., with his cousin, Karl D. Carnes. Police found Shugars in the getaway car, awaiting Carnes at another gas station, and quickly got a confession from Shugars, who started to cry. According to the arresting officer, Shugars self-pityingly lamented, "Everybody can rob you, but you can't rob nobody." [Indianapolis Star, 6-4-04]

I've gone though maybe 100+ filters in the last 10 years. (not really 100, more like 20-25)
they come,
they go.

when you work as a journalist, it's not always easy to neatly pack up your stuff. That and I shot snowboarding for the last 8 years and have broken several lenses and lots of filters. A soft tee shirt works very good. and a little spittle actually is an excellent smudge free instant never run out solution.

In February, a consortium of yoga teachers filed a lawsuit in San Francisco against yoga master Bikram Choudhury (creator of the celebrity-trendy "Bikram" style), demanding that he become a little more serene, himself, and stop hassling them by claiming a copyright on his positions, some of which, they insist, are centuries old. And Agence France-Presse reported in January that yoga classes for dogs are available in Miami, New York City and Hollywood, producing such success stories as the aging pooch that, having assumed special dog-yoga positions, supposedly regained mobility in her hips. (1) The December attempted robbery of a BB&T bank in Chesapeake, Va., was aborted when the robber and the teller arrived at a stalemate. The robber pushed a holdup note across the counter, but the teller read it, said, "I can't accept this," and passed it back. The robber pushed the note through a second time. The teller wadded the note up and tossed it back at the robber, who picked it up and walked out. (2) And the robbery of a liquor store in Greenville, S.C., in February was aborted when the clerk ran out of the store after the perp told him to empty the register, while pointing his bare index finger at him, simulating a gun.
