It was a really hard decision for me to make. I knew I'd probably get marked down a little for the black and white, but I didn't know how much. Almost half of the comments I got on my entry suggested the color verrsion would be better. I wanted black and white because I thought it gave it more of a classic feel, which one commenter also thought. I didn't get too many comments, so I'm just sort of wondering if the color really is better, regardless of the look I was going for.

Edited to add: the color is just cropped and neat imaged. I never saved all the editing I did before changing to black and white, and didn't think it mattered much, so I just didn't do any editing to the color since neat image is all I had saved.

I actually prefer the black and white one - I think the contrast of the photo was ideal for it. Maybe it was somewhat less appropriate for the Travel Guide challenge than colour would've been, but as a photo, I like it in black and white. I gave it a 10.

And, I gave you the other 10. I like the Black/white better too.

I personally prefer the color version. The only reason I lean towards it is because the image itself is quite busy with a lot going on visually. I feel the color helps separate certain visual elements and make the photo easier to look at overall.

On a less photographic note, I tend to love the colors and music in a fair. I find it's part of the overall appeal for myself. Having the color removed almost made the image 'less fun' for me.

Just my 2 cents.

I prefer the Black and White. It does look more "classic". The image is pleasingly well balanced tonally so the removal of the colour enhances this. I believe the Black and White one lets the viewer attach more of their own emotion to the scene.

Thanks guys for taking the time out to let me know your thoughts.

I guess I do see now how fairs and carnivals and stuff are really known for the bright lights, I never really thought of it being such a big deal, but I see it now.

And thanks for the positive comments as well. It makes the low score feel much better. :) Thanks!

I think the colour image has too many distractions. The B & W has a nice nostalgic feel to it.
