I'm sure there are number of professional photographers here. I wonder anyone here ever have an exhibition either group or solo. How did you get into it? And what was the feedback?

Originally, I approached a new dance school in town with an interest in photographing some of the classes. (I was also hoping this would give me a lead into the dance studio portraits) I was hoping to practice capturing 'frozen' motion, and I thought this would be a nice subject to work with, so I called them. The instructor agreed to set something up outside of class since all of her students were new and she was concerned I would distract them.

I went home that night and the idea for a photography show and open house for the dance school came to mind. I called it "Art in Motion" which worked well with the name of that dance school, Music in Motion. The local paper did a story about us and published some of my prints with their article. We had about 100 people come by, but overall, we felt the exposure was a good starting point. We felt the show was very successful for both of us since we pulled it together in a short amount of time.

As a result of this show, I have been invited to be the featured artist at a shop for the city's next art walk. This local flower/gift shop agreed to place some of my prints for sale a few months ago. I had not gone back in there and wanted to be sure she knew I was still interested, so I gave her a personal invite to this show.

There is an upcoming festival in our city (our version of a state fair) with a photography show and contest. I will enter that for sure. I entered last year and got a ribbon. I am also planning to visit our local library with my portfolio, since they have been known to put photography on display.

All I can tell you, is take the first step, you never know where it will lead! Good luck, from a non-professional!

A closer look at a few of the photos:

One of these dance shots was recently choosen as a finalist on Betterphoto.com.

My local library district is celebrating 75 years in the community so they are holding a mixed media gallery. I submitted four photos of two themes: travel and urban. Some may have seen my entries albeit in different styles. The photo I took of the children in Kiribati was one, a neon sign in chinatown was another. I also selected one from Venice Beach and my last one was from my recent vacation of, I think, Kona from the water. They are all different types of subject matter so hopefully one, or better yet, all of them, will get picked for display.

Here's the one from Venice Beach: //owwdee.com/dpchallenge/venice2004/images/venice10.jpg

The one from Fanning Island, Kiribati: //p.imwx.com/interact/photogallery/pics/7/1005966057.1094892763.jpg

The rest are not online in any manner and will be shortly.
