I didn't enter this challenge, but sat and voted the first 10% this morning, and I have to say WOW, there are some outstanding entries. I usually vote all 5-8s in the first go through and I must have given out 10 or 12 eights in just those first 50 or so images. If that's representative, this is going to be a very strong challenge. Nice going everyone!

I unsubmitted another photo (shown below) at the last minute. My thinking was that it was weak compositionally, but stronger with tones & textures. My replacement entry is the opposite: better composition, flatter tones. Anyone offer an unofficial "score" or comments on my pulled photo? (I think it would have finished in the 4s).

Down sharply from a 7.2 after the first 5 votes. I had to take a screen shot with both my challenge entries over 7. Doubtful I'll ever see that again! :-D

I'm down a quite a bit from the beginning as well. For awhile, I was on track for a personal best. No worries though, I remain happy. This is probably my first challenge entry that I will print out and put on my wall.

FWIW: this was the challenge that I had the most fun with, and simultaneously learned a great deal. The "voters" did well choosing this one. Good luck everyone.

even worse crap... 4.9 with 49 votes. and one comment that said it was nice, but they wonder what it would look like in color. IT'S A B/W CONTEST!!

and rising from a lousy 6.1 :)
Now, to which deity should I start sacrificing to keep this score? Who/what is the god of DPC? Or protective saint?

Me to, I can't complain it also differs from my other shots. But I was hoping people would see all the detail and TRUE B&W with shadows. But it's still early. There is hope for an avg. score.

What/whom should I sacrifice to appease him?

Without doubt, a triptych style border!

With so many entries, it's hard to stand out in the crowd. A photo that might have scored reasonably well in an average challenge tends to get lost in the surrounding noise. The best strategy for big challenges is originality and simplicity, with some sort of "story" to tell.
