Ok so I desided not to submit because there is probably going to be some amazing night photography, also I kinda liked mine better with some advanced editing...so here they are:

Advanced editing:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/17851/thumb/173902.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/17851/thumb/173902.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
Basic editing:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/17851/thumb/173906.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/17851/thumb/173906.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
Other:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/17851/thumb/173909.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/17851/thumb/173909.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Ummmmmmmmmm I'm glad you didn't submit these...it's hard to get good night shots without some kind of light source (in my humble opinion)

Here are a couple of the outtakes I was quite fond of but, in the end, stuck with what I hope will be preferred by viewers.

I'm also glad that you didn't post. Because.... you would have kicked my a*#!! Nice shot. And yes, the advanced edit one is by far the best. Nice work.

The advanced editing version was better in my opinion.
Had you had some stars showing in the sky, it would have been 10x better! Opens are such a test to see what we can "get away with" - LOL

I was going to also, and was going to use my all-time lowest hand-held shutter speed submission without using a tripod:
(1/4 sec)
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/19708/thumb/172428.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/19708/thumb/172428.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Yanked it out (obviously)
Opinions now that the challenge started?
Did I oops by not using it? (sans glitzy border maybe)

Im pissed, I was 1 minute late putting my picture into this challenge. I thought I had 59 min left, stupid time zones.

oh wow i completely forgot about this challenge... I think i've entered only 2 open challenges in the past two months. I never like the topics.

I pulled this pic of balconies on a hotel in San Antonio from Late Night. If you stare at it an optical illusion will make the bottom and sides of the balconies to not stay in perspective. How would it have done. Thanks for any inputs.

I like it. One more thing we have in common; I long ago learned the art of hand-holding long exposures. You SURE you're not me? Anyway, I'd have entered it, border and all...

Any opinions on this one?
Disclaimer: I did not enter the challenge. I'd given myself a 5 for this one, that's why.

Comments and suggestions appreciated as always.

I basically forgot about it too - Until last night - when I happened to have the camera on the way home from uni, in the 30 minutes I had to shoot, I couldn't come up with anything worth submitting - I'm a bit annoyed cos I was thrilled when I saw the challenge title.

Hey guys, some pretty nice outtakes here.

As a quick reminder to everyone, please remember the following guidelines:

* Please avoid posting outtakes which are similar to your own or someone ele's actual entry until voting is complete.
* When posting images larger than 30K, or larger than 500 pixels wide, please remember that there are dialup users hitting the forums, and that many of our international users pay per KB for Internet access. Out of courtesy to them, please use a thumbnail or a link instead of posting the actual image to the forum.

Thanks,
Terry

Aye, sorry. Is there no way to use the thumbnailing if you don't have your own portfolio hosted here?
05/04/2005 02:18:25 AM · #18
Opppps, I apoligize, one of the out takes may have been too similar, my mistake and thanks for pulling the message. It was inadvertant and have therefore kicked myself several times for doing so. Thanks to all.

An outtake

For me the challenge was to capture the essence or feel of the night and not only take a photo of something between 10:00 and 4:00 AM. I suppose I saw the word "late" as having a certain feel as opposed to just night or early evening. So I scrambled and got some things late last night just before the deadline around 11-ish and have a so, so, entry.

I liked the one above because it's a baker starting his graveyard shift but it was through a window with many obstructions. I had one with a greater dof but thought the wheat up front was a cool way to go. I rushed this take and I'm going back to do it right. Amy's Bread BTW...best in town.

cultural reference here...any guesses?

(i pulled it for motion blur, i don't have the bradp (or bear) steady cam.)

i got some great shots of my daughters slumber party for the challenge untill i realized that they had to be taken outside late at night! i was sooo bummed. i didnt enter the challenge due to weather conditions( rain rain and more rain for the entire week!) have a look and tell me what u think please. i used a wide angle lens that i just got but noticed that i now need to purchase a top mount flash as the lens blocks it.....late night outtakes i have skimmed over the entrys and have noticed some that were taken inside! ok...im off to start my voting/comments for the challenge
