ok, hoo boy. down! down boy! sit! sit!! treat? you want a treat? hmm?

let's just all take a step back and a deep breath. this thread is teetering on the brink of rant and nobody really wants that. this is where we bitch and moan about our scores. let's let that be the extent of the anger.

It's odd. I voted high on a lot of these photos I have tons of 7, 8, 9's selected and hardly any below three. I looked mainly at the photo Quality. I thought a lot of the shots were done fairly well. I usually only give or take one point for "meets the challenge" I must admit at least three of them really threw me off in this area. I am going to go back and try to comment on all the photos now.

I'm at 4.8 :( but I don't have any experience at this sort of thing and try to grow from my scores. :)

Well, I have been getting some really encouraging comments, but interestingly a very average score. very strange.

Here's mine now. I've already gotten more comments on this one than any other submission, yet.

So cool that my pic is somebody's favorite and I have 14 comments already!
That's more than I've ever gotten before, especially on the first day of voting, too.
So happy. :) Maybe I'll break a 6! lol

My 7 year old sons father died 3 weeks ago and I took pictures of my son's last goodbye to his father. I would have entered them into this challenge except that they did not meet the requirements. I beleive family can be depicted in a large variety of ways.

My point was (I thought this was clear) is that even though children come from families, I saw nothing in a lot of shots that conveyed the 'concept of family.' Two kids to me does not show family just because it is two kids in the shot. They could be ANY kids - kids on a playground, kids in day care - what conveys FAMILY?

Even one child alone would convey the feeling of family in my book. Having three children myself Is I guess what causes that reaction. I see a photo of a child and think of the pride and love a prent feels for their child and think of my children..hence family. Children very much represent family as they are often at the center of a families attention.

and why do voters with silly comments always use the hidden option? could it be a bag over their head is a normal occurance for these folks? LOL;-)

YIPPEE!! Somebody finally got it!!! I got the most encouraging comment after one that said "you need two for it to be family." UGH I don't want to give mine away, so I won't say anything further.

WOO HOO. (pop) ..... shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The champagne is now being poured.

still at 3.9 -- I find it funny that some people are so closed-minded. Oh well, what else could I have expected. Of course, I don't see how it could be any more family-oriented, but whatever...some people.

My entry is doing better that I thought, but even I know that it is no ribbon winner. I am getting my usual 5 avg. Thought I would be in the 4's though.

Finicky voters will therefore get pissy and vote down for everything they see that's not "out of the box" enough for them.

Mine's out of the box and I've never got scores as bad as this - I may pull it.

why the heck would you pull it...because you dont like the score..thats crazy....let it ride and see what happens and learn...no one is guarenteed a thing...expect nothing and then whatever you get is gravy...

I agree - why pull it from the challenge? (I mean once the voting has started) Seems self defeating.

Because I can, it's my choice, I pay membership like everyrone else so I can choose. You have no idea what's behind my motivation...I'm not a robot, I'm not text on a screen, I'm human. There are 100 reasons - why don't you pop over and I'll share, eh?

I'm not normally a pollyanna, but I just wanted to say that

1) My picture is scoring exactly where it ought to be, in my opinion,

2) I'm amazed at the number of helpful comments; I've never had so many on a fairly average submission before - I'm going to definitely try to enter all the low submission challenges, and

3) I love the images in this contest, especially the candids. This challenge has been the most fun for me to look through, and contains some of my favorite images.

It frustrates me a little. My image is outside the box, unless you really look at the photo. Several people picked up on my thoughts and commented favorably. The others just do not see it. My concern is nobody is commenting on the quality of the image. Regardless of whether they feel it meets the challenge or not they should atleast voice a opinion on the photo.
