Ok it seems to me (similar to what happened in the past challenge Landscape II) that a lot of the entries to the Garbage II challenge are extremely similar! How so you may ask?

1) I believe I saw about 10+ with the same title “Natures Garbage”: I’ve seen more rakes and leaves than I ever thought possible!
2) At least 20+ had the theme along the lines of “What is this garbage doing here?” where they show a bottle or can waaaayyyy back in the photo in some nature scene. Ahhh!
3) At least 40 or more involved a pop can .. or pop cans. Nooooo more please! Or at least give me a different perspective … like from the inside of a pop can!

How did this issue relate to the Landscape II challenge? Well I’ve never seen sooooooo many entries with streams, rivers and drops of water. Is this all we can do? Don’t get me wrong here, I’ve taken my share of photo’s of stream, rivers etc… but I thought this was a contest to push our creative boundaries … not to use perspectives on subjects that everyone and their dog has done 10 times over! The garbage challenge really showed this as well!

Hell there is soooo much garbage out there … sooo many different kind of garbage … if you think about it everything becomes garbage, even us! So next time you’re out there looking for a perspective on a subject please feel free to be creative!

I hope at least the photographers were concious enough to pick up the garbage they found when they were done with the shoot.

My goodness, we certainly have a high number of naysayers in the last couple of days...

I need to go back and bookmark ('Watch') these threads out of curiosity to see what kind of images are being submitted by the original thread poster when the challenge is over. You know, to see good solid creativity first-hand. ;^)

Good idea, the inside of a pop can (must be a midwesterner...haven't heard it called 'pop' in a long time)...now, how can I get my camera lens in there anyway? He-he.

Just as well the image was removed, I happened to see it too and was going to remind you the voting wasn't over.

I don't think you're allowed to post a photo of what you've submitted for a challenge that is still being voted on. :)

Just out of curiosity, have you commented on those that didn't fall into the "typical" photo that you've mentioned...to at least praise them for trying to be creative...

I tried being creative with my garbage shot, but I guess the general community of voters don't agree as it stands at 5.23 at the moment. I don't get this place anymore :-(

I've lived in so many places (California was one) I can't remember where some things originated. I've heard 'Pop', which is what we called it in Michigan as a kid, I've heard 'Soda', and in some places they just call it a 'Coke' regardless of whether it's 'Dr. Pepper', 'Mountain Dew', or 'Pepsi'. ;^)

Lol, i tried to be creative... but I am just lacking practice and skill. at least i can rest easy knowing that at least it was not a poorly done can, or rake and leaves. LOL, it was just a poorly done 4.9 idea!

I agree with you all!! I love to see a creative shot...there is an entry in this garbage challenge that pretty much duplicates the winner from GarbageI!! Can't we do better then that!!?
Now, I KNOW my shots arent the best,Hell, I can't break a 5.1. But I am learning, and Love to see the good photogs get out of the sterile studio, or the hum drum routine

Yeh figured it might not go over too well! ... and yes there were a number of entries that I found VERY creative ... and I'm crossing my fingers that one of the creative entries wins!

I tried to be creative as well and my score reflects the lack of appreciation for my originality.

Just for my five cents (inflation, you know), have had four comments, three of which state how original, or great concept, etc. Two do say lighting was not good, but do not say how to remedy that. Anyway, three of four say original or equivelant, and my score just dropped below 4.5, LOL. Maybe I should have gone for safe?? LOL Oh well. Was fun anyway!!

I can't talk about my shot, because it would be obvious as to what it is if I were to mention anything about it. So, yeah, it's creative. It's been hovering around 5 since the beginning of voting. It's a perfect 5.000000 right now, which I guess means it's around 50% creative in the eyes of the voters... lol

I wasn't inspired with the "Garbage" challenge until I went to work, and low and behold, inspiration.

I actually brought my very expensive camera to the job site on an all nighter, risking being fired because of things I signed beforehand, waited until the crew went to lunch. I took picture, after picture with the existing lights that we used during shooting.

I enter my submission thinking I have something original, and again, like other challenges, the subjectivness of this site, and the tried and true have taken my submission and thrown it to the ground with a stomping sound, kicking it into nothing more than a above average pix.

I know the lighting alone is unique, and comparing it to the rest of the competition, it fails as something people are used to.

I need a drink.

ditto here, I expect comments Immediately on how original I am.
But that won't happen becuase I referenced the garbage without it being the main focus. Oh well.

I'm with you there . .... thinking I should go for "safe" as well ... but it's soooo much more fun to be creative!

nah to all of this - there are just too many recycleable items that really aren't garbage, and that is affecting the votes... ;}

Hey, for everyone of ya'll that said something like "i tried to be creative" remember, creativity only goes so far, then you actually have to take a great picture of the concept.

My concept was a little muddy and rushed, my picture is too noisy because of a lapse in ISO control by me. My white balance was not set right, and something is a little too blurry.

I know the problems that my photo has, and I plan to learn from it. I think everyone should go back and give yourself an honest critique, and nitpcik your photo to death. Even one of those problems you see will cause a lower vote from some. If we want perfect scores, then we should strive for the perfect photo of our creative idea.

I tried to be creative as well. Mine is hovering around a high 3 at the moment though. It is a bit dark, but that is the only thing wrong with it as I see. Just doesn't seem to pay off being creative. :(

I think you are describing an image that is in a current Challenge here. YOu might want to edit your post.
