Thanks.. She's not mine, but I am her caregiver, and spend almost more time with her than her parents it seems.. some days. lol.

Yah.. the progression is incredible. So thankful that I have been able to capture it.

Please look at the first 25% of my entrees, with the exception of maybe 2 or 3, I know they are simply shockingly bad.

But I had to enter to learn. After that I entered many low scoring shots but never again really bad ones, IMHO. A few things happened;
- graphicfunk took personal interest in me and advised/mentored me,
- members like jinjit, artan, goodman, bradp, sandyp and so many others inspired and encouraged me, carried me through tough times,
- I bought an affordable SLR and some good expensive lenses,
- I cried in my pretzels everytime some people scored me low for what I considered 'good enought to score a 5.5 at least' and
- I kept looking at what the winners and the loosers did/did not do.

But above all I was allowed to learn through making and entering so-called mistakes. Even my current submissions are scoring shockingly low, but so be it. I paid my fee and my dues. I got hurt and insulted by the less sensitive and boosted by the decent and educated. I have a right to be crucified or praised.... AND A RIGHT TO LEARN!

I earned/deserved what I got or didn't get, immaterialof whether I, or others for that matter, liked it or not. There are more good in the DPC Tribe than bad, and that is why I will stick around for time to come.

(edited to fix my spelling and grammer, some so bad I should get coyright on it)

OMG, ROFLMAO, the variety of comments from the voters is hilarious. Such as on the nude... you got comments from horrible to the best composition ever...

And then the someone threw up on a strawberry comment... I've got little spit speckles on my screen now where I about blew Coke out my nostrils... LMAO I'm dying over those comments. Got to love the DPC voters.

I think peaple post awful pics because they don't realize (yet:P) that they ARE awful... And that is the real problem. They should ask some friends or enyone first if they like it or not. But it will come to their minds sooner or later... It came to me :)

Come on Kiwi! You obviously have the right idea and an eye for it, judging from your profile. Just get out there and do it. Don't try to put too much thought into it and just take the picture. You have the potential!

Geesh ... check this one out for a really bad last "second" entry.

I was just experimenting with CS2 and over did it a bit!

Self editing, or deciding what works in challenges, is a skill in itself.

It's a skill that can be developed just like any other. For some it comes easy and for other it develops over time.

There's plenty of evidence in the archives that prove that even good photographers take a little while before realising what the voters will vote high for.

cheers,
bazz.

I'm sure you didn't mean to sound so mean but that almost came across heartless. just because she hasn't posted in any challenges doesn't me she has any less of an oppinion as a voter

There are few unwritten rules here on dpc:
You can't critizise ribbon winners unless you have won ribbon yourself.
You can't critizise photos unless you have entered photos yourself.

That was no bug, it was that little stick guy with the lawnmower hiding in the bush.

You mean "Speling buk for begyners" is wrong?

I had absolutely no idea what that was until I clicked on the thumbnail to enlarge it. I thought it was some animal's eyelash. LOL!

At what point does it become too sucky to post? Seriously... Ratings under 7? 5? 3?
I've struggled with this myself.
I've also struggled with the thought that anyone driving faster than me is a maniac and anyone driving slower than me is an idiot.
It's all relative.
I posted an unimpressive shot because I promised a friend I'd enter the competition and I believe I'm better for it.
I think the beauty of these challenges is that they're open to all comers.
