In this challenge the subject of the photo is the colors or the lack of colors in the photograph! With all of the holiday decorations in place there should be a ton of things to photograph! Should be a fun one!

I'm not sure if I completely understand this. Sounds to me like a Free study.

Then we could do challenges in which the subject of the photo is the texture or the lack of texture; shadows or lack of shadows, contrast or lack of contrast, focus or lack of focus, sharpness or lack of sharpness...wait a minute, don't we see these in all the challenges?

i don't think it's specific enough in the description.

You've been here all of 3 months - surely you must remember what being a noob is like. How about "challenge descriptions should be something specific - like "the color red" so that we have to focus our shooting and not shoot anything we'd like."

How would someone who's never entered and just got here know what we "see these in all the challenges."??

Please note that my response was a satirical response to the original post in this thread. SATIRICAL..I wasn't serious.

I get the satire/sarcasm. My point was that sarcasm to someone who has no reason to know better ...

I don't think I need to add more to the challenge discription. Color would be the subject. Could be just red or grean or blue. It could be many color like a box of cayons, a bowl of jellybeans.
THAT"S THE CHALLENGE!!!

Back to the idea of "Color" as a Challenge topic. We've had single colors before; Orange comes to mind. And then we had that interesting Complimentary Colors Challenge.

Perhaps it would be fun to have a two color Challenge, i.e. Blue & Green, or Pink & Purple, or some other combination.

"Photograph a subject where the predominant colors are Blue & Green."

Edited to change Primary to Complimentary Colors.

I think I get what the OP is going for. A challenge where the color or colors in the photograph are what make the photo interesting. Not necessarily complementary colors, or any one specific color, but the use of color as a whole. It's a bit nebulous and will probably turn into a free-for-all, but it's an interesting idea.

I'm thinking a shot like this:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/37893/thumb/237039.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/37893/thumb/237039.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

would be what he's going for,

rather than this:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/6870/thumb/233413.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/6870/thumb/233413.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

in which the color isn't what's important or most interesting about the shot.

I shudder to think of how to put that in the challenge description, though. I can see dozens upon dozens of selective desaturation shots and a 12 page thread parsing the wording during submission and another 15 page thread bitching about DNMC during voting.

How about Green and Gold or some other 'unique' combination?

What about "Gaudy Color"- Not to be confused with oversaturated colors. Where the colors and/or combination of colors seemingly almost overwhelm the subject.

Gaudy may be the wrong term here.

I'm not, but let's move on. Gaudy color would be good - or do a remake of color portrait - maybe "color architectural shot"
