Well this looks like it will be my best challenge (I've only been in three now)... I have received some real good comments so that's good:

Lets just say that won't beat my top rated image (maybe....) but it will still be in my top 4....

I had a validation request....ugh, that's two challenges in a row now.

Validation request? That's weird. I'm curious as to why.

We seem to have some good scores floating around here.

yeah Doc. On our side, it's just terrible.

I cannot beleive that after 114 votes I have one comment... and it isnt even helpful. You have a week... slow down and actually help someone instead of clicking through numbers rapidly. If you're not going to comment, what is the point?

I do not mean to get all bent out of shape about this but it would be nice to know why what I think is an awesome shot is only sitting at 4.6 right now.

i got a validation request on borken too. i submitted my original what happens next? this is only my third challange.
02/09/2006 02:52:59 PM · #133
If I remember, the little message below your thumbnail changes to something like "thanks for your submission."
02/09/2006 02:56:27 PM · #134
Status: Thank you for submitting your proof file. Your submission is being reviewed by the administrators and is pending further action.

Dang, didn't catch the exact vote, but I suspect I got hit in the last 4 with a 1 or 2. Dropped nearly a tenth in 4 votes. Well, I guess it happens. Luckily, if it's a pot shot, you then tend to get to watch your score slowly climb back up.
02/09/2006 03:37:25 PM · #136
but what is the further action? it looks like folks are still voting on my entry. do i ever get something back to let me know what happened? i think it was because i was stupid enough to submit a lensbaby (blurred by the lens) photo right after all the panning tada.

In your home page, if no editing rules were broken once the validation is completed you will get a notice under your entry that says something like "your submission has been validated". I haven't been DQd so I don't know what happens exactly.

Dang, another 2. Anybody else getting hammered?
02/09/2006 04:01:45 PM · #139
Definetely not my highest, I guess I went too far out of the box. I'm guessing people didn't think it matched the challenge too well.

I'm up to 9 comments. They are really funny how the comments contradict each other. Either they liked what I did or they didn't... (I guess the middle ground are those folks that didn't comment ;-) ).

btw Dr.Atchoo

They don't know exactly how many of each they have. He just took his score before and after he got a vote and figured it out. Unless there is some other way I don't know about. :D

Ok thanks, that's what I thought, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on some site function.

Those of us who are super-geeks use an excel spreadsheet with the formula already in it, we just input the total score each time a new vote is entered, spreadsheet then tells what that person scored. Then sort by 5s, 6s, etc and easily tell how many of each you've gotten. Note: this method requires chronic insomnia....

and an active update button.

Can't tell exactly, especially if more than 1 people vote in a certain period. Here is my formula:

Here is my 123 (similar to Excel): (B36*C36-B35*C35)/(C36-C35) where B column contains the average and C the number of voters.

If your average was 5 and 10 people vote, and now 12 people vote and your average is still 5, you could either got 2 x 5s or 1 x 4 and 1 x 6,... etc. And what if 10 people voted and your average was 5, then 10 people are shown again but average raised? That means someone changed his mind.

Just an example to make it more practical:

My previous score was 5.5242 and 124 votes were cast.
My current score is 5.5397 with 126 votes cast.

Then, I get the average votes of the period as:
(5.5397*126-5.5242*124)/(126-124) = 6.5

This means that I got 2 votes, maybe a 6 and a 7, or a 5 and a 8,... etc.

ouch...i got destroyed today....dropped 0.3

crap, that is harsh.....

What is strange is when you get over a 7 average and someone gives you a 7...your score goes down. Not many times when that happens.

I am not saying that is or is not happening to me, but it is weird.
