So it may just be post-ribbon euphoria, but I have been thinking about all the incredible things I have learnt and great people I have meet & observed over the last 6 months. A great number of other DPCers out there must have had the same experience as me and I think it would be great if we could have a get together! I would love to meet lots of people, see lots of work, talk to people face to face, compare equipment, compare experiences.....the list goes on. I know that everyone is spread across the entire world but it could be a long way in advance to ensure everyone has time to prepare (and save). Not sure where or any of the real details, but what does everyone else think.

I think this is a fantastic idea! What about scheduling it for say two years time and choosing a venue that allows plenty of photographic outings so it is not just a usual convention in a hotel and talks. Would any photographic firms sponsor this? (Oh no, a Canon/Nikon arguement brewing here!) Or one of the big photographic stores I often read about in threads? They could have stands there.

OOoo lots of ideas simmering!

This is a great idea. I´m sure DPC´ers would find plenty of photograpic outings here in Iceland...if we manage to find a generous sponsor. Planning this in two years time seems realistic. Keep this dream alive!

I think Iceland would be a great venue but would it be very expensive?

I'm thinking of our US and Canada friends 'cos for me Iceland would be perfect - always planning to visit!

Has anyone any ideas how sponsorship might work? Could Langdon be involved in helping arrange this?
Could we have some sort of money raiser to help out for the costs of some deserving people on the site who couldn't afford it? Have we any professional organisers onthe site who could mastermind the affair?

Is this all a pipedream or could we really do it???

I'm off to bed now because its 11pm and hope when I get up in the morning there's been lots of discussion.

See you then :)

I'm all for it. Sounds like a lovely idea to me. I doubt I could afford it, but I'd support it :-)

We could always hold the outing here on Cape Cod in the off-season. My property abuts a motel. In the off season I could work us a deal to rent the motel for the weekend or something at a very reasonable price; maybe $40/night per room?

Cape Cod is well-located to allow forays throughout New England for those who make a longer trip of it. And of course we have a few photo-ops here as well :-)

I would LOVE for something like this to happen!! I have to say that overseas travel would make it more difficult....but then, with the huge range of countries our members cover, there's nowhere to hold it that SOMEONE wouldn't have to go overseas. But I think it would be just fabulous. I couldn't garauntee that I could go, but I can assure you I'd make every possible attempt!

sounds like a good idea, to help plan it and i think would be a cool idea anyway can the SC plot the locations of members onto a world map?

I think Iceland would get the most votes if we would vote on location ;)

a good friend of mine owns a few hotels and I service a few more all over Iceland and I know I can get a very good deal off season for a big group anywhere in Iceland.

as a group we could even stay at different locations, maby 2 nights in each part of the country and just drive around shooting.

I can also get a very good deal for the group at a few restaurants here.

and probably at a car rental to if anyone's interrested.

some of the hotels have a conference room where we could have our own GTG at night, showing of our equipment and photos, have lectures and just get to know eachother :)

2 years in advance seem a bit to long, maby next year is better.. next fall, september maby, it's still quite warm here then and we still have daylight 20 hours a day.

Sounds great! i really love the idea, especialy in advance! 2 years time i'll have my licence and money (crosses fingers, lol) but yah, definatly a great idea, I'd love to meet everyone in person. The sponsers a great idea too. I'd love to see this work out

Iceland sounds good.
And workshops: landscapes, portraiture, whatever you can think of?

I would definitely be done for this, but not in two year.... that's just WAY too far away. Something within a year would be great.

End of summer perhaps?

i would say, if it's a convention somewhere, it will most likely be in the East Coast where D&L are currently residing ;) There's heaps of good stuff out there plus hotels, etc ;)

Let's for upper East Coast in the fall, to catch the changing of the leafs - I've always wanted to do that!

I think a worldwide GTG day is more feasible. Pick a day and all DPCers will meet together and post the days shooting. The day should be the day that DPC first went online.

anyone for africa?
04/01/2006 02:08:58 PM · #23
That would be fantastic but I need at least 2 years to save enough money for something like that !
Iceland sounds really good ! Cape Cod too !

Wonderfull idea. Imagine if everyone shows up...that will be a 42534 people shooting spree. Hehe. But seriously I think at least 1 year in advance preferebly 2. For alot of people this will mean a lot of money to spend. Iceland is my #1 pick but of course this should probably be put up for some sort of a vote. A (long)weekend with outings and lectures will be amaizing.
