Hi,

I'm new to the Bay area and am not sure if there are GTGs planned or there are any groups that meet up regularly around here.

Could anyone give me some info or even some places where I can go and do some good shooting at this time of the year?

Thanks a lot,
Swapna

welcome to dpc and bay area. I was recently talking to Rikki to plan to get together, so we may meet sometime soon.

I'd also be interesting in a Bay Area GTG. I live in Alameda.

Welcome to the Bay first of all. If you haven't been to Yosemite before, its not a bad drive at all from the Bay Area and definitely a trip you should plan on making this summer. Of course there are all sorts of other great areas in and around San Francisco. What type of photography are you into, landscapes, architecture, etc?

I don't think there are currently any GTG planned, but there are a bunch of great photographers in the area. I live in San Francisco, so I'm probably most helpful in regards to shooting around the city. Here are a few of my favorite spots:

The Mission Neighborhood
Treasure Island for pictures of the skyline and Bay Bridge
Marin Headlands (Alexander Drive) for Golden Gate
Chrissy Field for Golden Gate
Baker Beach for Golden Gate
Muir Woods
Muir Beach and Stinson Beach along Highway 1 to the North
Ocean Beach in San Francisco
Golden Gate Park
Pt Reyes (up the coast to the North)

Summer is here so that also means street festivals galore. Some of my favorites are the North Beach Festival and North Beach Jazz Festival in SF. (June and July).

That should get your started. Feel free to PM me if you have additional questions.

Take it easy,
Dave

I've lived in the area all my life and I've never been to Treasure Island : (

How about up on Twin Peaks or Coit Tower for elevated views?

Paul, how is this possible? :-) My best-selling stock image is a skyline shot from Treasure Island. Twin Peaks and Coit Tower are great too, but I can confirm that the view from Treasure Island is outstanding.

It was a Navy base (essentially off-limits) for most of my life, and since it's been opened for development I've just never had occasion to go there, though I've thought of it recently for just this reason.

There are quite a few places near Santa Clara. Alum Rock is a good place to start. //www.city-data.com/city/Alum-Rock-California.html

San Juan Bautista is also a nice place to shoot that is somewhat close.

If want any other info feel free to drop me an email. My brother-in-law lives in Santa Clara and I go out there quite a bit. Cheers Tim.

That Japanese garden in Saratoga is called Hakone Gardens and it's a great place to take flower shots and smaller landscapes.

The Legion of Honor is a great place for architectural shots. The Haight-Asbury district is good for personality shots. I love Treasure Island, the Japanese Tea Gardens in Golden Gate Park, the Golden Gate/Bay Bridges, and Chinatown...

Have fun cause there are tons of places to find great shots!

Madison

P.S. Look at my photo "Thinking for the Ages" from the Legion of Honor.
