Hmmm ...likely overexposed or may be that it is "flat" with little contrast....does that help?

Someone said that my picture was washed out.
What do you think they meant by that?

my average votes cast is low but that is because I tend to only give high marks to the photos i feel are worthy to place in the top 3.

Wow...so all below 5 except for 3 images in each challenge? That's tough voting !

ive voted in 3 challenges so far, each had around 300 entries. If you go look at the last 200 images in any of the contests that have 300 entires you will notice the voting average on those is around or below 4.0 so I think i am voting right along the curve,

My average vote is higher then that... I don't vote if I feel DNMC....I vote 9-10s to the images I would like to see in the top 10 and any vote of 6 and under says needs some work.... 7-8 are my votes for average images.

NUTSHELLED
10-9 A
8 B
7 C
6 D meeds improvement

*EDIT*
Not every person here has a model, a studio setup, endless $$ etc. So not everyone can "Create" this eye poping WOW image they have to make due with whats at hand. I don't think those people deserve 1-4 thusly I judge based on the image, not on what the photographer has or doesn't.

I give 5 for average shots...IMO that are good but compared to other's they are just average...I give 6-7 to many that are simply better than the average 5. 8-10 for the ones I think will make the top 10 when compared to the other's in the challenge.

4 scores and below are given to OOF, busy, rotton horizon, just plain bad shots that I will end up in the bottom 25-30.

I give out one 10 per vote to the picture i think should win. The rest that I feel are worthy of a ribbon if not the win, are 9's 8's and 7's Then there are 200+ photos that I feel are not worthy. I give between 3's and 6's on those. The majority of the photos I voted for were probably 4's and 5's.

my point here is, I take time to look at each photo., Look for details color etc... I dont just click through and vote 5 for every picture.

Ok,
I've been studying photography for a while now, and I just got a comment that said my photo could use more DOF..

So, by saying more depth of field, he/she means more blur in the background..or less blur? Cause I thought the DOF was great..it has alot of blur in the BG.

How do you know which are worthy when you start voting? Or do you view each and then start voting? Or perhaps go back and adjust votes after you are done? Just curious.
06/07/2006 02:49:33 PM · #121
I usually look at them all once then vote. But I also do go back and review my votes afterwards, I will then make changes if I feel gave someone an unfair #.

Went to bed 7am server time, with a score of 6.6552.
Woke at 2:30pm server time, to a score of...whimper...5.9851.

That's a BIG drop!!

So I warned my daughter before she checked her score, this being her first challenge and all. The bugger only dropped from 5.6some to 5.5some! Mutter, mutter, KIDS! I was reallllllly glad, though.

Yes Tim, we have a race, unless I drop ANOTHER .5 in the 38 votes!
Now I'm right with ya.

Because of so many entries will the scores be lower on this challenge?

Not the way I vote Pixy.
The scores should not be in relation to other photos. I.e. a photo that IMO scores a 6 will be a 6 regardless of how many pictures are better or worse.

The percentile you end up in is also not related to the amount of entries but it will of course be more challenging to end up in the top 5 with so many entries.
