Hmmm,

My first vote gave me an average of (er) 3.0
My second vote brought that average to 3.5
Third vote? Average now is: 4.0

Stand back. 12 more votes and it'll be a 'perfect ten'

(Statistics was never my strong suit)

If this is not the most "clueless" challenge... I donno.

Like each photo is different than other.

I was off to my best start in a while. 5.7 after 8 votes. Now I am below 5. Looks like I will have another 5 image. I really would like to get into the 6's sometime!
07/31/2006 12:52:50 AM · #32
Well, I quickly browsed most of the photos ... and I feel most of the photos are about "depiction of zen" rather then "zen photographs" in themselves. Anyway, I might be wrong but it seems like my average vote is going tobe around 5 only.

"Make an image that whispers serenity, simplicity, harmony. Make an image as silent as can be."

Woohooo! Cue the crashing waves, turn on the wind machine! I want to see those trees leaning at 89 degrees! Zen, baby, zen!

I started with 2 votes and a 4.0000 so looks like in for a lot of ups and downs. Ah well I will know in a week.

Definitly some noisy zen in there. lol I found a dozen or so I really liked, and many that I just didn't care for.

apparently, buddhists are terrible spellers... ;)

Here is why I bother to quibble about the spelling (also from Wikipedia):

According to Hindu philosophy this syllable is combined of three components: the letter A (alpha), which represents creation, when all existence issued forth from Brahma's golden necleus; the letter U, which refers to Vishnu the god of the middle who preserves this world by balancing Brahma on a lotus above himself. The letter U with the A, produces the sound of the long Ô (omega). The M produces the prolonged resonance of the nasal cavity with the mouth closed: it is the final part of the cycle of existence, when Vishnu falls asleep and Brahma has to breathe in so that all existing things have to disintegrate and are reduces to their essence to him. This is the M of Mahesha, also known as the great Lord Shiva, whose long period of yoga begins so that the sensual world ceases to exists.

Also from Wikipedia:

"In Buddhism this syllable is almost never transliterated as Aum, but instead as Om."

Apparently it is a "contraction" of Aum. Om, not Ohm.

...now, about the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin...

yeah, i'm pretty sure the voters are looking for minimalistic content, and are voting down if it isn't so.

4.00 right now. i was afraid of this.

good luck everyone :)

I had a 6.1111 with 9 votes a moment ago. My commenter wasn't sure my photo met the description though.

Who knows!

My best early start in awhile though so I'm not complaining. :)

Yeah... go voters... think the image "should" be minimalistic and quite... yeah... like that... we are going just fine that way... Jejeje (yey!)

~You have rated 329 of 330 images (100%) in this challenge.
~You have commented on 4 images (1%) in this challenge.

Step one done (100% voting).

I'm really did not find many of the photos fit for "Zen Photography Style". There are three main deviations (I feel) -

1. Shooting a Zen Temple/Garden is necessarily not example of Zen Photography
2. "Artificial" setup does not give feel of Zen nor does it helps in "Zen Photography"
3. Landscape can be serene...and thats about it

I feel the key virtue of SIMPLICITY, in natural form, is missing. I think my average vote was around 5 and there were few photos (no more than 15%) which I voted above 6.

Anyway, I plan to comment on every photo which I voted 6 or above (with some exceptions).

...and I guess just one thread is taking away much of the voters. I have received just 13 votes in last two hours. I'm at -

I'm guessing Tej won't be giving me a comment based on his post here. :P

At least we all have our own opinions. And this isn't doing nearly as well as I thought it would anyway. At a 4.6667 with 14 votes. I'll pay someone to comment on mine...and not the "good picture" type.

Well, I talked about Exceptions and used the word "necessarily" :) There are some good photos from Zen Garden, with Artificial Setup and great landscape... but not many which reflect "Zen Photography" style.

...and you are right - we all have our opinion, and you should be glad that there is just one "me" :) lol. Goodluck.
