Hi All,

I will be new to all of you, but yet have been "around" this site for quite some time. I enjoyed just being a visitor for awhile and then took the plunge to become a registered user a month or 2 ago. I'm now considering becoming a site member...who knows?

I just have a cheap little point and shoot camera that produces some fantastic pictures if I take the time and set my mind to acquiring good results.

My camera leads to my question: I realized right away that I was going to need some sort of exif. program, as all I would ever know about my shots was very minimal. However, in the exif program I downloaded, my camera is only listed as "camera". It does give the megapixel info and such, so there's not a question that im using a digital... but does my particular camera need to be listed in the exif information for me to enter challenges?

I will greatly appreciate anyone answering this question, as i'd really like to enter an upcoming challenge in the near future.

Thank you,
~Holly~

When you are viewing your thumbnails in your windows folders...right click on one of the thumbnails and choose properties. Now click on the Summary tab and if you can't see the info then click on Advanced. It should be there.

You should be able to submit a ticket under 'Help', and send them a file to make sure the EXIF will be legal.

If you're running windows XP, try right-clicking one of the files and going to Properties, then 'Summary' and 'Advanced'. It should give you a bunch of info including shutter speed and aperture and etc. I would guess if that info shows up, it'll be fine to use here.

Wow, you 2 are fast. Thank you so much for replying! I looked at where you both had said to look and I found all the information. It still doesnt list my specific camera, just the model.

Madman2k, submitting a ticket for verification is a great idea! I will do just that in case there'd be anything missing that im not aware of.

Judi, it was so ironic that you were the first person to reply to my post. You are one of the first photographers who inspired me at DPC. I was just browsing one day and found your portfolio/profile and followed the link to the wedding album you created, ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! I loved everything about it. I even googled the song to find out who sang it, then downloaded it. lol

Thank you to both of you again,
~Holly

I beieve since these photos were validated, yours should be fine, also.

Should have no problem with the exif holly :-)
...just remember, to always work on copies, NEVER save over the original photo! That is part of the importance of exif, it has to be the original, unaltered exif.

The only requirement in the rules is that the camera produce exif information -- I don't believe there are any rules stating what that exif data must contain.

... of course, the time and date are assumed for validation the image was taken within challenge dates! :)
