It will never stop...... Nasti found 2 DPC ribbon winning photos by DrAchoo and Artyste on a Russian photography site.

You're right there, it likely never will stop. Equally likely is me continuing to be baffled at why people would garner any pleasure out of doing this.

isnt there a way to lock the images on the site. i know that i have been on other sites and when you right click to save an image the site wont let you.

the arguments been made that a person could just take a screen shot to steal your photo anyway. I personally know how to right click and copy but have no idea how to take a screen shot. but i've heard it's not hard either. i've just never tried. disabaling the copy feature would probably cut it down a little. i would think. but if i'm wrong. it wouldnt be the first time. ;)

edit to add: when I found out one of my photos from here had been stolen the site it was on removed it very quickly but never cancelled that persons account? why not? is there any reason to think that person didnt know he was doing something wrong? his name was bad guy and he had stolen one other dpc'ers photo too. doesnt seem right he could keep his account. know what i mean? thats not something DPC can fix. just something I found very odd.

Hit the Print Screen button, make a canvas in Photoshop the size of your screen resolution, and paste. Crop out what you want.

Disabling right-clicking only stops honest people, like those who want a copy for their personal collection. A determined person will still find a way around. Disabling right-clicking also stops being able to open links in new tabs, and I do that all the time on DPC.

oh thanks for clearing that up. disabling opening new windows would suck. i thought just the copy and save as parts could be diabled. like so it's they are no longer bold(or usable) but the rest of the options would remain.

I think the rusted truck shot on that site is also from DPC, but I can't find who it belongs to.

Found it... belongs to ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Hroxas... it was the 6th place shot in Broken II

I also sometimes take an image into PS to try an edit I think might work for that shot before I leave a comment with the CC, or when someone asks for different edits in the forums.

I do that, too. I then delete the picture from my computer unless someone specifically wanted to see it - then I post it in my workshop folder at DPC before I delete it.

If you have Firefox you don't have to bother with capturing an entire screen and then cutting out the image you want.

With Firefox you just click Tools | Page. Then select the Media tab. Scroll down through the list of images that Firefox found on the page, highlight the one you want to save, and click Save As.

The right-click Save As menu never even comes into play. So the protection that some sites put on there images is totally non-existent. The only method that really slows people down is to put watermarks on the images. But then that images themselves aren't nearly as enjoyable to look at.

this is so offending to me what someone from here wrote there....

Anonymous | 17.09.06 15:34

Nice site, really useful tool to display stolen work, No wonder russia is 40 years behind everyone else... you lazy hacks hahahaha, bet its cold over there, how about another shot of vodka and another bowl of grule... hahahah soviet loozers

I feel personally offended by this offensive comment, cos beeing a Russian doesn't mean being a looser and a thief! I am proud to be Russian and also would never say anything that unfair and abusing about any particular nationality. People, be fair and don't jump at nationalities, this is the responsibility of the person stealing only!

Very offensive and racist. Whoever wrote that should be ashamed of him/herself.

If that was someone from here, please go delete that remark. Thank you.
09/17/2006 08:14:17 AM · #13
I would have hoped that someone from this site would have been above that kind of remark.
09/17/2006 08:22:39 AM · #14
OMG! what an a**!. who the heck would write that? and then mark it as anonymous. come on! I agree with Anastasia. that's amazingly offensive.

The photos have been taken out, looks like that they were taken out by the girl herself and not by the admins. I hope she would never do anything like that again.

This may be a dumb question, but exactly how do these people "steal" photos........ are they the actual photos by Dr. or just his ideas/concepts?

Ukrainian blood here, by way of Australia mind you! Russia is not just a place of vodka and gruel, far from it! Russia has a very developed culture despite the communists, it's just we don't get to see it.

Yes that was a horrible comment. Hard to believe someone in this day and age could still believe something like that.
