OKay, I am going to make two motions:

I. We post-pone until May 6th. This gives us almost a month for the weather to clear up and warm up a bit. We should still have some nice falls from snow melt off and all the rain come May.

Just with it being several hours round trip for many of us. I think it's hard for us to be keen on 2-3 hour drive each way for a rainy/soggy/snowy day in which we will likely have to keep most of our cameras in plastic bags.

I think by postponing the GTG we will help ensure that a large turnout. Where as if we don't formally do so, we will likely have a small turnout for both.

II. As I was thinking about the shoot. I realized I have NO CLUE about shooting waterfalls. I imagine many others do not as well. I realized this when I was originally planning to leave my tripod and just take my monopod. But then I had a second thought after thinking about the slow exposure time. So is this a good time to lug the tripod around?

III. (Yes, I know I said only two but a third thought occured in the meantime so let me get it out before I add a fourth.) Hot dogs, burgers, etc. I was thinking. We're in a park. What about bringing a charcoal grill and cooking up some hot dogs and burgers on the May 6th date. I'd be willing to chip in for the burgers & dogs. I could hit up Costco and buy a box of both. If other wanted to bring buns, chips, and soda. We could make it a get together to be remembered. What do you think?

Hey Saj, you're on the right track!

I. I think waiting is the best course of action, and a big turn out would be amazing! Hopefully the weather will be on our side by then.

II. I've done some waterfall shooting on these GTGs before, and you're ABSOLUTLY going to want your tripod, and any ND filters you have. To get the slow, misty watered look, you have to do long exposures, and the tripod is vital. And surprisingly, they aren't really a pain to carry around.

III. The whole picnic idea gets my vote. Usually we all just go out to eat, but this would be a lot more fun. And we are in a park, after all. Maybe we can start a list somewhere, to keep track of what people are bringing, and what we still need?

I am good for May 6th.

I'll bring something for the BBQ. I have some charcoal and lighter fluid, but no grill so I will for sure bring those. (I just got a new Weber last year and trashed the charcoal grill.)

I think I am still going to go on the 15th to take a look. It's not a far drive for me and I haven't been there in many years. Of course, depending on the rain/snow/wind/sleet/ice conditions, maybe I won't get out of my driveway. I think Spydr is still going. I won't worry about meeting anyone else there unless they let me know.

Okay, I am going to work with TonyT on the May 6th get together. I've created a new thread here: //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=577268

We're also going to try to have a picnic barbecue. I think this will be fun. And it makes it easier on those who have families than going out to a restaurant's. I don't have any kids but I can imagine what it's like for a mom, dad and a pair of children to eat out as compared to just me or my wife.

Plus....barbecue's are fun!!!

So, did anybody brave the crappy weather and meet up yesterday?

I drove all the way up there and sat in the parking lot for two hours, but nobody showed up :(

Ok, just kidding...! With the crappy weather approaching, everyone seemed to agree that postponing it to May 6 was a better plan.

That was definitely some Monsoon like rain yesterday. I can't imagine being out and drenched to the bone like that. <shiver>

I'm gonna lock this thread so that the conversation here doesn't get confused with the new thread.
