I did a search and couldn't find a thread on this.

It's been all over the news and most probably are already aware of the problem, but I thought I'd post the links just in case. A few of our outdoor cats have turned up missing just recently and though we supposedly don't have any of the tainted pet food on the list, it makes me wonder.

The recall pertains to many popular brands of wet/moist foods.

It's all over the news here in NC and my Mom lost her cat due to this recall. Her cat, Buffy, was overweight, just a big ball of love, played all the time, ate all the time... She bought dry food and then as a treat she bought the Special Kitty pouches at Wal-Mart to mix in with the dry food. A few weeks ago he stopped using the litter box and stopped eating. She took him to the vet, they at first diagnosed him with Fatty Liver Disease, and put a feeding tube in his neck. After a week of back and forth to the Vet they finally told her that his kidney's had shut down. She put him to sleep. His brother, Bandit, still lives with my Mom and she is so scared of losing him since he ate the same foods. She plans to bring legal action if she can.

I do believe that a class action has already been initiated in this regard. You might wish to peruse this Class Action over Tainted Pet Food.

Sorry to hear about your Mom's loss, and the best of luck with the other cat.

Sorry to hear that, Dana. Lots of people have lost pets over this. It's sad.

Be sure your mom saves any receipts and vet bills.

3. Who is going to pay my vet bills for sickness and death?

If Menu Foods product is the cause of sickness or death, Menu Foods will take responsibility. Menu has engaged a professional firm to manage your concerns and is currently contacting concerned pet owners who have reached our call center. Specific direction will be received from these individuals. Please keep copies of all your vet records and receipts for pet food purchases as well as vet bills.

It could be seen as such, but then again, not being privy to all of the information relative to this issue, I can't honestly pronounce myself on this issue.

At the very least, the company should be held accountable for vet bills, and the cost of replacement for the lost pet.

I agree. I don't think individual people should be suing for tens of thousands or millions, but to many people pets ARE their children and irreplaceable. They should get something in return.

True and they should get whatever is appropriate from the party directly responsible for the cause of the problem which hasn't even been determined yet.

Tests find rat poison in recalled pet food.

It was a pretty scary thing. My dog doesnt eat soft food, if he had I think I would have been worrying like crazy waiting for something to happen to him. He's my baby! ' I'm so sorry for everybody out there who lost a pet or had a pet ill during this time!

It is all very sad. I believe there are bigger issues here. How did the poison, aminopterin, a rodenticide that has is not approved for use in the United States or in Canada get into the food and why did the FDA not find this in their inspections.

The FDA checks our food too. I find this a little concerning.

And on the loss of the pets, Menu foods should be held liable for all costs and some pain and suffering. I have 2 pets that are like children in my house. I would be devastated if they had been affected by this tragedy.

FDA inspections are way down due to cuts. I think I heard the other day (I could be off a little) that only 20% of imports are inspected. Pretty scary...

Am I the only one that finds all these tainted foods lately a little suspicious? Is it just because there are less inspections or is someone poisoning our foods on purpose?

Am I understanding this correctly, Menu Foods is the manufacturer of the brands on the list? They make the food for the different labels?
This makes me wonder since the different brands list different quality of food and the prices differ also.

From the FAQ page, this seems to have happened only in the last 3 months. Has there been complaints from earlier times? I have heard so many stories of kidney failures in pets, specially in the US :(

This is also being persued as a possible cancer fighting agent for certain cancers.
