Here's a picture I took today. I'm not really happy with the composition, so I'll probably try it again.

Tree on College Ave.

Does it work now?

Sorry, I uploaded it to webshots, it works for me, but apparently not anyone else. I'll repost a new link in a little bit.

Having 9 ties isn't bad, Penguins barely have 9 goals...well not really, but it seems that way. Toskala seems to be getting the job done for San Jose

Well I think they're on pace to shatter the record for ties by a lot. But they have a 2-0 lead and a power-play near the middle of the third period (at home vs. Dallas) so who knows ....

Maybe they could give us a playoff game for Christmas (vain attemt to relate to thread topic), but we wouldn't be able to open it until Easter ....

Thanks Flash. I would have posted the challenge picture, but it wasn't actually of a christmas tree -- I took it of a tall pine at our local zoo that weekend...I guess that's pretty close though, huh =)

From a couple of years ago...

Gordon,

Beautiful. Looks like a warm family setting at the Holiday.

Now, "by popular demand" the dreidel:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/1568/thumb/49954.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/1568/thumb/49954.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Full Chanukah pictures will have to wait (from me, at least)until the holiday begins.

Happy holidays to all!

Now I'm wondering how many of the trees are artificial and how many are real ;)

Did anyone cut down their own tree this year?

LOL

That is the subject of the next thread: "Which Tree Is Real?"

haha.. I was just teasing. I know most people don't live in an area where they would even have the option of cutting down their own tree. I do live in an area where I could, and don't even have a tree.. haha

I'm sorry to say ours is artifical.
We got tired of paying $60-$100 ea. year for the large real trees.
But usually friends and relatives can not tell the difference.

Understandable, the artificial ones are easier to deal with anyways.

The running joke around here is that its $3 for a permit to cut one down, or a $5 fine if you get caught. But I'm sure thats not true anymore. Probably gone the way of the set $5 daytime speeding ticket, or when there wasn't a speed limit at all around here.

An artificial tree around our house would be a major no-no. My girlfriend's mom owns and operates a Christmas Tree farm back east. If she got wind that we put up a artificial tree.... woooweee would there be trouble.

peterj407...thanks for the post and Happy Holidays as well.

jdw91479...real vs. artificial has pros/cons both ways. Living in Michigan, have cut down many a seasonal tree. Quite an event to head to the tree farm, ride the wagon out to the fields, select the right tree, cut it, haul it back to the parking lot, lace it to the car, have a cup of cider and a plain fried donut, head home, spend 4 hours trying to get that "right" tree into the stand....STRAIGHT, lug it into the house, scratching up the door jams and floor, get pine tar and needles stuck into the carpet, remove the stuck needles from the carpet with tweezers, and finally get to the most fun part of taking directions from everyone else on where to place what, lights, decorations, etc.

But besides the above advantages of a real tree, the fragrance from the fresh cut pine, the daily watering to prevent premature drying and potential fire, and the release of the spiders that have nested in the tree....its pretty hard to beat a real tree.

The other option is go to the local store, plop down a couple of hundred bucks for a tree of resemblance, haul it to the car, miss the cider/donuts/wagon ride, still scratch up the door jams getting the box in the house, generate a hernia from lifting 60 pounds in an akward position, scratch your arms and hands putting the pieces together, then have all the joy of being directed to put the decorations here or there.

It is a pretty hard decision to choose which is better.

My current tree...from a box It is hard to find a 10 plus footer year after year.

Bottom line though.......whatever activity that succeeds in bringing you and yours together, for a moment of peace and love during the Holidays.....may it be reward enough.
