Perhaps if you describe what you are trying to do, people could offer some help. The simple answer to the simple question is "put it on the camera and take photos". :)

what kind of things do you want to know?

You can put the camera on the green square, put the flash on the hot shoe, and go shoot - let the camera do all the thinking.

The other extreme is you can shoot with the camera in manual mode and the flash in manual mode...

P mode is popluar with a flash.

Av mode can get confusing as what it does changes with the ambient lighting - fill flash in normal and bright lighting, or main flash when it's darker.

google some and read, then come back and ask more specific questions.

ETTL is only for P, Av, Tv, and all the other auto settings. I don't think it'll work with manual. In order for ETTL to use the focal length (and the focus distance), it needs a compatible lens. Your 24-70mm should give it the distance information. If you have no idea what you're doing, I would suggest starting out with either the P or Av modes to see what's going on. P will do all the work for you, Av will do some of the work for you. In order to use the flash in manual, you also need to set the flash to manual. Read the instruction manual for more information on how to do this.
