12 of 13 were not hypocritical. Hurrah!

(Huge religious significance implied!) LOL

I'm sitting at a 5.7xx

I thought my photo was a bit outside of the box....it was at the very least a very personal photo. I expected it to do better, but the comments received have been, for the most part, favorable. A couple folks missed the mark on my intentions, but that is just part of the game.

I have had time to vote on about 2/3 of the images in religion. I think that there are a lot of truly dreadful images entered. I have never voted so lowly - but I don't have time to comment on them all - I am currently on hols in the Mediterranean. I might get time to leave some comments later, but here are some general points (from my POV):

Small icons/home statues: they score as badly as toys do normally. No effort, usually poor lighting, bad scores.

Statues: someone else's art. Unless lit beautifully, they score as badly as statues do in normal challenges.

Children: a picture of a child hardly evokes a sense of religion in the viewer. Think about what emotion you are trying to evoke in the *viewer*, not what feelings *you* get from something. You are trying to evoke a sense of "religion" in the viewer - not trying to portray your own inner sense of religiosity (unless the two happily coincide).

Churches: they are buildings. Take a good picture of it thinking of it architecturally, and you might have a good image. But just including a church in an image does not evoke the concept of religion.

Titles: if your title has to do any work to explain why your image concerns religion, then your image has failed.

I scored loads of ones and twos where people made these mistakes and then compounded them with poor focus, lighting and/or lack of inspiration.

If I may add, familiar imagery associated with "religion" tends to be overtly conservative and traditionalist (concepts that religion is often associated with). It tries to convey images of safety, family, perhaps inspiration or divinity, marvel, suffering etc - what it does not do is try and convey the concept of "religion". Familiar imagery is probably a bad starting point when trying to think of fresh, clean, imagery that conveys this particular concept - required (IMO) to do well on DPC.

no real change... only one negative comment... but then, he must have instinctively known the photo was taken by one of those "under educated american redneks"? oh well...

too bad this score won't help my team any this week. (yep. my 6.1503 isn't high enough to get counted... hehe... i love my team!)

no karma was involved in the making of this score...

No one has been posting anything here for a while - what did everybody surrendered to their Karma?

Did not enter challenge.

Stats: You have rated 306 of 308 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 78 images (25%) in this challenge.

Rather embarrassingly, I am at risk of ribbonning in this challenge and I failed to make any meaningful religio-political statements with my image. My credibility as an opponent of religion may take a bit of a battering.

Plus, I am away on holiday next week and won't have a chance to defend myself (must remember to pre-validate).

Mine went from 5.33 to 4.88 and back up to 5.35 again. Tell me about it ;-)

I really wish my snake handling friend hadn't backed out on me, it would have been a unique shot in a challenge where so many of the pictures are extremely similar.

I know everyone's upset about their score, but I gotta say guys... since I'm voting only, I don't have a dog in this fight... I'm generally not impressed. I usually hand 10's out like their candy, but I haven't given one single 10 in this challenge. The highest I've given was an 8. There's a couple of pictures that I like a lot, but I'm not sure what they're doing in THIS challenge. Giving it a clever title doesn't make it meet the challenge.

Then, there's the nudes... I've never disliked the nudes I see on this site, I generally think they're very tastefull. But, do you have to enter nudes for EVERY challenge? They're almost as *bad* as the flowers. I swear to God, we could have a challenge to go out and take pictures of Roman Catholic Nuns, and several of you would submit naked women and title it, "Not A Nun." At least this time I saw a couple of naked men.

::::gets off soap box::::

PS: Some of the nudes did get my highest scores, but still....

If I hadn't have angered the gods early on in voting, I'd be doing ok right now.

The shot is fairly decent in itself (it's not amazing, but definitely not 4.5) so i have to think that i am getting dnmc from closed minded religious people. Will i ever learn that only through spoon-feeding voters the criteria will you do well?

I'm hoping! At 4.93 right now! All I need is a miracle!
