my very first thoughts:

blood looks fake
the gun looks like a BB gun I had as a kid
overprocessed

sorry, but you asked :(
perhaps shock value images just aren't my thing

ummm...yikes comes to mind. A bit overprocessed.
06/18/2007 01:41:57 PM · #4
I have to agree, the processing is a bit over the top.
06/18/2007 01:42:13 PM · #5
I prefer the second one. The word in the first one doesn't blend too well and theres too much black/overlay on your hand. but other than that I think it's good too.

OK, I'm going to go against the grain a bit. Firstly these aren't really my "thing", but there is a place for this type of image. They are heavily processed, but it works for the "grittiness" of the image. If I liked this style of photography/digital art, I would certainly like these images!

I'm curious why you made these images. Scared to ask, actually....but they seem almost like an advertisment.

Got a Headache...?
BANG!
Headache GONE!

I think the processing is perfect. Well, that is to say the subject matter is out there and your treatment made me uncomfortable, so it's working.

Weather its real or fake, your bb gun an his bb/prop/real are based on the Colt M1911A1. SO theyd all look slightly the same. Curious to find out.

I think it's good work. More graphic design than photography, but that's neither here nor there.

First image, I like everything but his arm and teeth, they look really horrible and do not fit the edit of the rest of the image.

second image, the text looks bad, does not fit as well as in the first image, way to much blood, specially if that is the trigger hand. on the ground it looks a bit too fake, the splatters are not convincing enough, but the colour and textures are good I think. Something needs to be added to the gun as well, it is a bit to 'clean' as compared with the rest of the image.

for the 'grunge' the processing looks fine, not, 'overly' processed just needs a few changes (see comment above)

What he said. It isn't overprocessed in the least unless of course you compare it to high school portrait photography or the like.

Yes, I think these are very good, and probably better as a set than individually. I'm wondering though if the words are redundant. On first glance they add to the images visually but not conceptually.

EDIT: Fake looking guns and blood? Not in my opinion.

i like the overprocessing
06/18/2007 03:15:44 PM · #14
i quite like both of them and i wouldn't change a thing. i think the processing is just fine and it works in concert with the message that it appears you are sending. very nice work!

i guess the gun's not exactly the same, but close :)

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/400/thumb/251031.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/400/thumb/251031.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

My first thoughts are AWESOME and COMIC BOOK....

I happen to like the processing it gives it a comic book look or that sin city movie look to it.

Good job to me. :-)

I like these. Your notes mention film posters as inspirtation, and indeed, I immediately thought of the Gaspar Noé film Seul contre tous when I viewed these. The post work is necessary, and complements these images very well. Dark and gritty, a little disturbing, redolent of media images concerned with violence. Nicely done.

I like 'em! I'm all about shock value and disturbing subjects and I think they're great.
I will suggest a few things though. For the first one, the outline around the guy is too prominent. Also the two front teeth do look kinda bright. On the second one, I'd make the white outline around the text match the dark outline around the text in the first one (in style, not color). Also the blood is a bit dark.
Or not...it's your call. But I like them either way.

I personally dont like the subject matter butI think the processing is appropriate and that the props look real.
06/18/2007 07:37:40 PM · #20
I like the processing. I don't like images with words on them, because I follow that "a picture is worth a thousand words" motto.
06/18/2007 08:57:31 PM · #21
I like them and agree that for the style they are not over processed but do agree with Andrew about the arm and teeth.
06/18/2007 09:15:30 PM · #22
i like them....especially the second one....nice work

Not bad... I wonder how it would look with a tiny bright pink plastic squirt gun, a matching bow in his hair and 'teef'...

Then again, my tastes are a bit out there...
