I took this shot at an Ultramarathon in May. Unfortunately, the runner finished down the wrong chute and so I ended up having to swing around to catch the shot and got a lot of "stuff" going on in the background. Does anyone care to take a stab at toning down the background? (especially the trash can!)

I am not sure what would be the best approach to take so any suggestions would be appreciated. She actually won her age group in the 100 km. race so it would be nice to get a good print for her.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Start by reading the tutorial on moving the light.

Then brighten the runner, esp. her face, and darken the background.

You could also try to clone out the trash can.

Good luck!

Here you go. I cloned out all the background stuff. Put a radial blur on one.
I added the original for comparison.
Original
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/40484/thumb/543528.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/40484/thumb/543528.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28070/thumb/543583.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28070/thumb/543583.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28070/thumb/543582.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28070/thumb/543582.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Here's a couple edits. This first one I decided that getting rid of the trash can would not be as good as putting it to use...

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28742/thumb/543600.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28742/thumb/543600.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

In this version, I thought about how to add the feeling of running really fast...
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28742/thumb/543602.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28742/thumb/543602.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

This one I just cleaned up around her...
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28742/thumb/543601.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/28742/thumb/543601.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

None of these are really uable for prints since they are fairly low res but as Jeff (' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' levyj413) said - try that tuturial for better lighting and just clone out the stuff you don't want.

Thanks for the help everyone. I think I like the versions that have cloned out the background stuff the best, not that I think she wouldn't appreciate the version with godzilla as much as I do!..after all it's a classic!...lol :)

An angry moose may have gone better in this setting though, as the t-shirts the runners get with this race have a characterized moose on the front and say moose bait on the back. (It IS a wildlife area trail run)

Now to brush up on my cloning skills.

Thanks again for the samples and suggestions.
