The Japanese versions had quite high sync voltages of around 300volts, which of course would fry a D200. I have several newer ones that were made in either Hong Kong or China, that work fine with around 8volts sync voltage. I use them more with my D70s than my D200, as they will sync up to 1/8000 on that series camera. Also with a wein peanut slave that plugs directly in the side of the 283, you can sync wirelessly with the D200's built in flash if the D200's flash is in manual mode.
Also the way the auto thyrister works on the front of the flash allows for a unique mod. With a paper clip you can short the normal resistor that is for the different auto apertures. This allows an incredibly short flash duration that will stop many high-speed events like balloon bursting, slow traveling bullets, etc.
The 283 is one hell of a workhorse, and is a great addition to any camera bag. Just make sure the sync voltage is bellow 10-12 volts if you plan to connect it directly to the camera.
