Art House is looking for 1,000 people from around the world to receive 1000 disposable cameras. We'll mail the camera to you to document your life in 24 exposures and then you simply send us back the prints. Not only will we have the exhibition here in Atlanta, we will also travel to the city with the most participants. Soooooo, tell your friends, mom, sister, cousin, or whoever to sign up. The exhibition will be home to 24,000 photographs of 1,000 peoples lives all over the world.

Not exactly photography but looks like fun:

Subject: The Canvas Project

Your work at the world's busiest airport!

Sign up to receive five 3"x3" canvases and a list of 5 user generated
words that you are to interpret onto each canvas. The goal of the
exhibition is to create a visual encyclopedia using mini canvases and
artists from all over the world. At least one of your canvases will be
published in an Art House book and one will be on display at the
worlds busiest airport, The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International

Take part in this project to not only help gain exposure for yourself,
but also to push your creative ideas out. Everyone who signs up and
sends back their work will be included in the book and the
exhibition. We do not jury any of the work. Art House is all about
community and you don't have to be a professional artist to
participate in the exhibition. This project is about being creative
and inspiring yourself and others. We want to bring artists together
and give everyone a chance to show in galleries and other venues
across the country!

Artwork now being accepted online for a juried competition to have
work of three winners represented at the Scream London Gallery the
week of June 23rd, 2009. Artists must be a member of
myartspace. Membership to myartspace.com is free. Registration for the
competition is discounted to $25 until March 31, 2009 and then rises
to the normal price, $50. Last date for registration and submission is
May 15, 2009. Prestigious jury panel will select 50 finalists and 3
winners. Jury consists of Vanessa DesClaux, The Tate Modern/London,
Tom Morton, curator at the Hayward Gallery/London and contributing
editor at Frieze, and Francesco Manacorda, Curator, the Barbican Art
Gallery/London. Winners will be announced the first week of June,
2009. Winners art will be flown to London by MYARTSPACE and
represented at the Scream London Gallery.

Matera Photo Contest

If you have pictures of Matera (south Italian town) you might want to participate.


€10K to the winner and €1K to each category winner. Sounds interesting? Well, read the rules before applying.

“…you grant the authorization to use the submitted pictures for any use without any compensation.”

I asked for information about this and they replied (this is not my translation, hope you get it):

The applicant will be using the shots to promote the Basilica region at various trade fairs/ on the web/ in print etc. and we would very much like to publish a book with the best shots. Seeing as though the book will not be free as we need to cover costs for print (to limit these we have Antezza tipografi as our only major private sponsor), but without asking a cover charge for the same would not be able to print the same. The competition is not in any way used by us to earn money or speculate on the shots, rather have free rights to diffuse and distribute the same for promotional purposes of the Basilica region.

Credits will always be used, whether on web, print or for apt promotional reasons.

The human body is not just the vessel in which our consciousness resides, but also a canvas and a sculpting medium that is used to inspire, provoke, and sometimes offend. The Human Canvas seeks to explore the many ways in which the body can be an integral component of art. The exhibition is open to all domestic and international, professional and amateur photographers working with digital or traditional photography or combination of both. The Center for Fine Art Photography invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions. Submit your artwork for SLPS Austin! We are currently seeking cohesive, creative, and thought-provoking submissions. Participants are encouraged to take creative risks, in terms of content and presentation. Submissions will be collected online in advance of the slideshow. Photography, the oldest non-profit organization in Western Pennsylvania
dedicated solely to the understanding and appreciation of photography as an
art form, invites photographers to submit entries for our juried Fellowship
Competition and our New Works Galleries. Juror for Fellowship 2008: Ariel
Shanberg, Executive Director of the Center for Photography at Woodstock. One
photographer will be selected to receive $5,000 and have a one-person

Open Society Institute Invites Proposals for Moving Walls Documentary
Photography Exhibition

The Open Society Institute invites photographers and artists to submit a
proposal and completed body of work for consideration in the Moving Walls 16
group exhibition.

The exhibition series is intended to present an artistic interpretation of
the obstacles ‹ such as political oppression, economic instability, and
racism ‹ that society often erects, and the struggles to tear those barriers
down. Since its inception in 1998, Moving Walls has featured nearly 100
photographers whose work addresses a variety of social justice and human
rights issues that coincide with OSI's mission.
The Open Society Institute encourages photographers to submit documentary
work of national or international subjects that coincide with the issues and
geographical areas that are principally of concern to OSI.

Upon selection, photographers must submit a budget proposal for printing,
drymounting, and other production costs. Once the budget is approved,
participants will be responsible for working within this budget and must use
OSI-approved labs. OSI will then pay for standard framing and window
matting. In addition, selected photographers will receive a $1,500 royalty
payment. When the show comes down, OSI will cover the costs of returning
work up to $750 for photographers based in the United States and $1,250

Seattle, WA + HMC Collection - Landscapes, Realistic to Abstract

4Culture is seeking to acquire wall-mounted landscape works that use color
(paintings, prints, photographs, drawings, etc.) for the Harborview Medical
Center Collection, part of the King County Public Art Collection. The
subject matter for this call must be the essence of landscape, whether
represented realistically or abstractly. These works will be on display
throughout the public spaces of the new Norm Maleng Building, a multi-story
facility that houses operating rooms, acute care, rehabilitation, and clinic
facilities, along with their associated waiting areas. An overall budget of
$80,000 has been designated to purchase artwork.

National artists who would like their work considered for purchase must
submit images of existing available artwork for the panel's review. The
maximum value of individual works should be $3500. A maximum height or width
of 36" and a maximum depth of 3" for the artwork is specified.

Arts Writers Grant Program
Announces New Application Process for Book

The Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant is a three-year
pilot program designed to support writers whose work addresses contemporary
visual art through project-based grants issued directly to individual
The grant program is spearheaded by the Andy Warhol Foundation for
the Visual Arts as part of its broader Arts Writing Initiative and is
administered by Creative Capital.

Beginning with the program's 2008 grant cycle, applicants for book projects
will no longer be required to submit a letter of strong interest/intent to
publish from an editor as part of their proposal. In place of this
requirement, the program is implementing a new Letter of Inquiry phase for
all book proposals, which will serve as a gateway to the formal
grant-application process. The addition of the LOI phase and the elimination
of the letter of strong interest/intent to publish will enable the Arts
Writers Grant Program to process a higher volume of book proposals and to
consider book projects at an earlier stage of their development.

LOIs will only be accepted from writers who meet the program's general
eligibility requirements and who have been writing professionally on the
contemporary visual arts on a regular basis for at least three years; or
have previously published a book with a reputable publisher; or have
completed a Ph.D. dissertation.

There is no LOI phase for writers seeking support in other categories
(articles, short-form writing, and blogs/new and alternative media). Those
writers may apply directly to the program during the general application
phase. (For these projects, the online grant application form opens on
August 4, 2008. Grant applications are due September 22, 2008.)
