Maybe it is harsh...maybe it isn't nice, but honesty is what I am good at. I think that we really helped Joey out, at least a little bit, and I don't have a real problem with his pricing. I just take issue with the possibility that there are people who helped him out. So many times people tend to forget where they came from, per se. I said what was on my mind, and I it doesn't bother me that some take issue with it. The world would be a really crappy place if we all agreed on everything. I'd MUCH rather hear a person's perception of the truth rather than smile at me and lie to tell me what I wanted to hear. For the record, it wasn't so much bitching as it was expressing a personal disappointment. I still wish him well, and I hope that he sells thousands. I just hope that those who are successful remember their roots.

Ooh, I wish I could afford it, Joey. Best of luck, your star is definitely on the rise!

Sorry joey, I would buy the DVD, but I just wrote a check for routerguy's lighting DVD (I hope it's as good as he claims it is). :(

I would never buy a pirated copy, but if anyone who has bought the DVD doesn't mind me coming over with my camcorder (and some popcorn) and watching it over your shoulder, I'd be much obliged. :D

Well I happen to know Eric and I don't think it is a matter of if he can afford it or not. I kind of agree with Erci. I bought the first DVD not becasue I wanted it but becasue I wanted to support a member of our community. I wish Joey the best but I don't see why he wants to charge so much for stuff you can find on the internet for free.

Gotta agree with this. I thought we paid a membership fee to not see advertisements?

Let's keep bumping - 3,100 views already - How far can we go?

edit: Just thinking, 3,100 Google Adwords clicks would cost over $1,000 depending on the category.

Has anyone seen these DVDs?

I think they are $179 for a 4 DVD set. A friend of mine has them and although I didn't take a look, he says they are very good.

Does Joey's DVD show many styles and processes or just ones that show you how to get his "look"?

Many people may want the whole package and not just one technique.

Let me know if any of you have the DVDs listed above. I'd like to see if they are any good.

I heard there's an easter egg of RG doing karaoke of Britney Spears "Baby One More Time". Pigtails, schoolgirl skirt, and all. Please confirm.

For the record and if anyone cares what I think:

Joey - charge whatever you want for the DVD and if your goal is to make lots of money, more power to you! I tend to agree with dwterry about lower pricing, higher volume can equal more $$$, but what someone else said about keeping it limited is also true. In the end, it's up to you and I salute you for your talent and your capitalism! And when I do a little comparison analyis of my own:
- Lightsphere: $50+
- LucisArt Filter (with hideous interface): ~$200
- Canon Lens Cap: ~$50

...and come to think of it, but not to get off topic, how many starving children could all our lens caps feed??

To anyone who is bad mouthing his price choice - that is in very poor taste, IMO, but seems pretty common around here. Eric's point about "supporting Joey" seems misguided to me, but that's between him (and the other Joey "supporters") and Joey. I will say that I have given out several DPC gift memberships over the years and I wouldn't expect to get something in return - especially if I bought and received something to "support" them.

All that said, I would agree that advertising the product in this forum makes no sense to me. If it doesn't qualify for the FS forum and it was posted by most anyone else, it probably would have just been removed.

Back to work now (charging outrageous prices. Yet, they still happily pay me. Go figure.)

I can get portraits at walmart for less than 10 bucks yet you charge at least 7 times that. I can get a wedding photographer for 300 bucks yet you charge at least 3 times that much. whats your point? I hope you get tons of people to hire you and you get them to pay your outrageous (;>) prices but it would be rude as hell for me to butt into every conversation you had with a client and tell them how they could get the same stuff cheaper from another photog, don't you think?

final thought: anyone could afford Joey's DVD by switching to Geico.

Not to take anyone's side...

...but once the "offer" was put on the tips and tricks forums, it was fair game for everyone to knock it or praise it !

At least someone is viewing my website. Have to agree with kenskid though. I didn't put my prices up for debate so that is not what we should be discussing. Once it was posted in the forums it is fair game. Isn't that what we do as a community? Look out for one another.

He didn't put it up for debate. many of you chose to do so. And no, recently (including this thread) this community looks to be rude and negative as hell. I am gonna have to ignore this thread before I get banned. I just honestly hope that the group of supposed supporters your children hang out with when they are Joey's age treat them with a little more respect. Sorry I helped drag your thread down Joey.

Maybe Site Counsil should move it to FS like Joey suggested !

Get over it. I didn't post my prices and say that is it. He posted in a forum. Not the buy/sell forum but in Tips, Tricks. We have every right to voice our opinion.

I think there is a lot of difference between being rude and being honest. Some of us wish to write in forum what we feel and think. If it is in forum it will be discussed. People here have only wished Joey well.

Further about your point about ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_N.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_N.gif', '/') + 1) . ' rex's pricing. I think his pricing is for service, but if you ask him some tip he might not charge (pricing is not for knowledge).
Same thing here if you ask me anything I know I will always share it with you (not sell it you by asking you money about it).

Further people did buy first DVD to help. (So this is valid point to be put in discussion).
I also wanted to buy just for helping but did not buy since I am in japan.

edit for fixing gender.

Actually, Joey posted it originally in the For Sale forum. SC moved it here, evidently so everyone could bitch about it.

Apparently you have familiarity with said theory, but I wasn't speaking directly to you, just the group in general. Don't take it personally.
