Wow I am excited!! Been feeling bad, baby on its way! And I was gonna check my email and see how I did with Letting go, and noticed my texture entry at my highest average vote yet with a 5.6,,, all other of my pictures in challenges have barely even made it to 4.88,,......Oh and 5 helpfull comments,,,
So I started voting and was able to give out some helpfull comments too!

Remember, there are over 400 entries. That is alot so even if it looks like there are fewer comments based on the number you have recieved, it may still be more comments overall.

To whomever referred to the site "going downhill." I honestly don't think so. I think it goes through cycles and such, but as far as honest feedback, I do get it here. Even if I disagree with a voter/commenter on a picture of mine, when I actually step back and remove myself from the picture, I can usually see that what they have said or how they have voted is probably pretty accurate.

That said, sometimes there will be a picture that makes me go, "What were the voters thinking?" (Like my "No Hand of Man" picture)

I just realized that the better your shot is doing, the more comments you get. This is so wrong, if your shot isnt so good, you should be getting the comments so you can make them better,

Ahh, but it's easier (for some of us) to work from the top down. I've done 63 comments - starting from the top - but they get harder with every entry! I hope I've already done yours.

I think you will find that if you have a great photo you will get a lot of comments. Likewise if people think your entry stinks you will also get a lot of comments.

There`s been a lot of negativity & displeasure on show lately, regarding the site and the voting patterns etc...(I`ve contributed..especially on the voting patterns)but it`s nice to see the opposite side for a change and to see the lift you can get from your handiwork being appreciated.
Good luck Tracy.

The 3 comments are positive/constructive & and broadly reflect what I could see about the limitations of the image and the camera I used.

Having had the opportunity to keep track of the voting for short periods and analysing the votes given it has ranged from 3 to 8 (so far!).

Happy with a middle ranking but must try harder for that certain something that will one day get me in the top 10. But for the moment vote, vote, vote & make them high ones ;~) But I do wish anyone voting less than 5 would comment!

PS Working my way through my voting & trying to comment on as many as possible before the 24th voting deadline.

just out of curiosity. are people seeing this challenge as a low scoring challenge? as in, there will be sub 7 ribbons.

For texture:

Avg Vote:5.2066

But this is what I find really discouraging:

Votes:114
Avg Vote:4.5175
Comments:0

That's my entry for The Four Elements. I think people need to either a) not care what people think if you tell them what you really feel about their picture, or b) learn to take criticism so everyone else can be open.

That's all it takes. The good pictures shouldn't be getting the comments. The ones that could do some improving should.

Or at least it should be balanced.

Pardon a newbie, but I cannot find where to follow the current votes?

On my profile page I can see I have currently received 9 comments, but when I follow the link the site states I have received no comments.

What am I missing here?

Seeing your score updated in realtime is one of the benefits of being a paid member of DPC. ;-)

It's an interesting statistic that there have been more forum threads than there have been photos submitted to challenges on dpc. Make of that what you will.

Ah! Fortunately, that is a problem I know how to solve!

Thanks!

You can click on the link to your picture, under *My Submissions* on the left side of the FPC home page. It's a link that looks like //dpchallenge.com/challenge_stats.php?action=comments&IMAGE_ID=6xxxx
