So, are any of the above out takes better then the one I submitted?

Here is the one I submitted:

I actually submitted the one with the Man outstretching his hand after flinging the slice of bread.

At the last 10 minutes I cropped the man out of the picture and enlarged, all in .jpg mode. A mistake since JPG editing looses clarity.

So what do you all think if I left in the bird feeder-man?
What do you think of the other outtakes?

All of these were taken with a borrowed lens, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Nikon, on an overcast wintery afternoon.

Not an outtake just me having doh! moment.. I was complaining about the lack of birds but the local park, a 5 minutes walk away, has tons of them... totally forgot..

Not really outtakes, but some commenters mentioned that a different crop or different composition would have worked better. I can agree - but not so easy when looking at the whole scenery:

Original and surroundings:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/55000-59999/56502/120/642755.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/55000-59999/56502/120/642755.jpg', '/') + 1) . Submitted picture, which did quite well compared to my usual results:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/0-999/807/120/638111.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/0-999/807/120/638111.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

I was out shooting for the Bird challenge, but no birds were forthcoming. It was a rainy day with dull light. These are two of the shots I got. They are not BW, by the way. I didn't submit either of them, thinking they probably wouldn't do well, and I was probably right - but I can post them here! My would-be Bird submissions.

I like this one much better than what you entered. The bg color accents the bird well, and the diagonal of the branch has a more natural flow for the viewer. This outtake may be a tad underexposed but only slightly and easily fixed with a minor PP adj or two. Add a small dose of sharpening...

I liked the curve branch in this one, but It doesn't compare to the expression and pose of the chickadee in my entry photo. These chickadees are a real struggle to get good shot of. I am thinking though of doing a black and white series of these birds and trying to get more unique poses/actions like I did in my entry.

My shot bombed...I had spent the day at Homosassa Springs and my mind was just fried by the time I got home - I had so many shots to go through...

Actually birds puff themselves up when it is cold to keep warm, I guess it doesn't get cold enough in Florida for them to do that.

Nice outtakes all! Enjoyed looking at them. Although the outtakes are lovely, you all seemed to make the right choice in your entry, IMHO. :)
