Somebody needs to bring some dorky, outrageous, outgoing, obnoxious, funny, cool friends. Some people to aggravate the quiet people. LOL.

I'm dorky, not so outrageous, not too funny either, but I like to try.

So sorry to hear about your mother. You and your family will be in our prayers as you begin to move forward.

I am working up a "rough itenerary" currently and will post it by the weekend.

Sorry again for your loss.

Hi Griz,

sorry to hear that your mom passed. I hope the healing process has begun for you and your family. I hope you are able to make the GTG though.

Hey everybody! I am working up a sample itenerary and should have it posted this evening. It looks like we are going to do the zoo/botanical gardens/park on Saturday and some downtown/arch stuff on Sunday. Probably looking to start around 9 am on Saturday at the Zoo (we can get cell numbers out to everyone, so if you are running a little behind we should be easy to catch up with). Sorry about the early start for the out of towners, but we have a pretty big day planned (the zoo is HUGE and appearantly so is the Botanical Gardens).

Let me approach the “model shoot” questions here. If you saw my earlier post, you can see that these folks are going to join us for a day (or two) of enjoyment. Brizmama wrote me the following in an email: “Basically they would be along to have fun with us and give us some subjects to shoot if we choose to. I have not confirmed with anyone but I was thinking 3 people or so. I think if we keep it casual and fun then everyone will have a good time.

So think of this less like a photo-shoot and more like portrait opportunities with people who like to have their picture taken. Most of this will be natural light portraits, although I am sure we could band together some Speedlights to augment the natural settings. This summer, with some better planning, and a distinct purpose, we could get an actual photo-shoot together with indoor/outdoor sessions, lights, backdrops, props, etc. But I think this will work fine for our purposes in April.

I will get with Erin to see if we can get folks interested in tagging along both days. Oh yeah and bring cards or something with your contact information on it to trade with everybody (especially those we will be doing the TFCD--Time for CD--or TFP--Time for Prints--work with).

I got back a bunch of PM’s and emails and have totaled things up a little. It looks like we will have 8-10 photographers (of those that responded) on Saturday, and 6-8 will stick around for Sunday.

It seems that most people attending Saturday’s event would enjoy the Zoo/Gardens/Park and picking up Arch/Landing/Downtown on Sunday. So if there are no objections, I would like to set these as the locations for the days.

Last year we met up at the zoo around 10, but had all day to spend. I think if we meet up around 9:00 we could get some big parts of the zoo covered before lunch and before we move on to the Botanical Gardens and Park. Below I have listed a possible itinerary of where we will probably be and when. I also included twilight (visible light) hours and actual sunrise/set times, as sunset shots on Saturday and Sunrise shots on Sunday were brought up in the thread and emails.

Saturday:
Sunrise: 6:28 am
Sunset: 7:35 am
Twilight: 6:01 am, 8:03 pm

9:00 Zoo (about 4 hours)
1:00 Lunch (Zoo, Boathouse, or Botanical Gardens)
2:30 Botanical Gardens and Park (about 3 hours)
6:00 Sunset spot or dinner/drinks plus any night photography/socializing

We have a few options for lunch as you can see above. I have linked up the websites that have menus and prices (the all look about the same). What do you think?
Boathouse
Botanical Gardens
Zoo

A few folks mentioned getting up and around Sunday and catching the sun coming up around the Arch. We can work on this (places and times) if anyone else is interested. Other than that I guess we would want to meet up around the same time (~9:00) on Sunday. And we have a few options as far as what we can do. The rain this week kept me from checking out the levy, but I plan on running by this weekend and taking a look.

Sunday:
Sunrise: 6:27 am
Sunset: 7:36 pm
Twilight: 5:59 am, 8:04 pm
6:00 Sunrise/Breakfast
9:00 Arch/Laclede’s Landing/Levy (move about the area through lunch)
12:00 Lunch (Laclede’s landing area…maybe Old Spaggetti Factory)
1:30 pm Courthouse (inside stuff)

Anyway, that’s what I am thinking. What do you folks think? Options for lunch? So, here you go. 15 days to go, and I have to finish watching my NCAA bracket go down the drain!

sounds great to me. Have you heard any more from Erin about getting models for Sunday?
03/29/2008 10:05:16 AM · #112
If the sunset/sunrise at the arch is important to anybody, I would suggest sunset from the Illinois side.

Im personally not too concerned with getting those shots, but its my experience that the sunset gives a better look, and I had to go across the river and look back to get it.

I might give ya a big sloppy wet frenchy when I see ya, no worries mate, I'll have my misses along, so it wont feel too awkward. LOL.

I was considering driving down to meet you guys, now you throw the Spaghetti Factory in there and I don't know which day would be better! I know this is a ways off, but if anyone ever wants to do a GTG during football season I could go every Sunday when the Rams are home. (My husband has season tickets and he and his friend go to every home game)

The schedules look good to me, lets hope for some good weather and all of our schedules come out ok.

hey all! sorry for the absence this week. We've had a death in the family. I have about 5 models set up for sat. and have asked them about sunday as well but so far none have confirmed. I am posting a casting call for the sunday shoot later today if no one responds. Again sorry for being gone, I have been working on it.

I guess it has been a rough few weeks for Missouri DPCers. Erin, sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you will still be able to make it next weekend (those that haven't met you yet are looking forward to it).

There is a chance that my brother and his girlfriend will be in town that weekend. If they show up, I owe him a tattoo and will have to get one as well Saturday afternoon (stupid tradition). But they would like to come with us to the zoo. I could also talk them into tagging along Sunday and doing some modeling. No one loves my brother more than he does! They are a pretty cute couple, and I am sure would love some pictures for their facebook, myspace, and all that stuff. I will find out their plans for sure this weekend and will post back.

ETA: I plan on sending out some confirmation PM's this weekend (probably Sunday) so we can start to get a head count. Has anyone talked to ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Mark? I have sent a couple PM's and he posted in the last STL GTG thread.

If you all want to PM me I can compile them and send them out only to those that send theirs in.

My hubby has to coach a soccer game on saturday morning :-( So we won't even get down to St. Louis area until lunch time or a little after. It looks like I'll have to catch up with you all for the afternoon/evening portion of saturday.

Is that when people were talking about Spaghetti Factory?? Cause I LOVE that place!

Hello everybody. I am typing up a confirmation PM right now, and should have it out shortly (please reply with a PM or email and I will list confirmations). I have received cell phone numbers from the following: ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', '/') + 1) . ' ladyhawk22 ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', '/') + 1) . ' 3eyedcrow ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Tlemetry ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' griz210 and ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' MattO. I will send out another PM with the list of numbers to those that submit their own. I will have to leave after lunch on Saturday as my brother is coming into town for a visit (they will join us at the zoo though), but will be back Sunday to hit the courthouse and "Graffiti Wall" (see below).

I found some specifics on the walls Jason was talking about with all the graffiti. It is known as "Graffiti Wall" and it is the flood walls south of the Arch. It begins at the MacArthur Bridge, the intersection of Chouteau and South Lenard K Sullivan Blvd. (which runs right between the arch and the river) and heads South for quite a while. It seems to be a fairly big photographic draw, so I don't think we will have any issues with pulling off the road and shooting some of the artwork. If you google "Graffiti Wall St. Louis" you should come up with a few photos and articles about the place. //www.panoramio.com/user/318412 has some pictures on the second page (also some from other places we are heading). We might think about going here first on Sunday so we don't have too harsh of light, then heading inside the courthouse or to lunch and hit the Arch and Laclede's Landing. If you have a wide enough lens and the water in the reflection pond is calm you can grab a pretty sweet shot in the early afternoon of the Arch and it's reflection my 18-55mm caught it (at 18) with 1.6x crop (Rebel XT), but I couldn't crop it to 8x10...so the wider the better!

Anyway, check your email tonight for confirmation PM's.

Thanks,
-drew
