I noticed that in the last Urban landscape challenge there were a few shots that ranked in the top 20 or so that were like this:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/0-999/726/120/570546.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/0-999/726/120/570546.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
(not that I am picking on you, just as an example)

Would this be considered an urban landscape?

I am asking to make sure I understand what to submit. :)

Thanks
Jaime

I would not consider that an urban landscape, though I would consider it a cityscape. I think of a landscape as a broader view. I have a couple of good shots that I am not entering because like your example, I don't think it is a landscape. I expect there is a fuzzy line here, however. I'm interested in seeing the other responses to this.

I think something like this could be considered an urban landscape if shot at a wider angle, including the ground in the shot. This would give a much better sense of place. My 2 cents.

if you see the rankings of this shot, you will see that it did very well. So I am wondering if the ground really needs to be in the shot for it to be a landscape. As long as it gives you a sense of place. It might be a landscape.
I am trying to reason to see if I can submit a shot I have or not. This is why I debate this. :)

Perhaps as urban landscape is a bit forced but, on the rank, if 22/174 with 6.49 isn't good well I shoud be very happy of this not good final result :)

I think it fits the description just fine, but (apparently) some voter expectations are that the entries should be more panoramic.

I'm not going to let the results of another challenge tell me if that if the shot scored well, that it is on topic in my mind, if I don't agree or not sure about it in the first place. So without any regard to the score of the photo posted....

It's a good looking shot but If I'd be nitpicking, I'd say that shot isn't exactly an urbanscape. It's more up like sky than down to land. It's right on the line perhaps of DNMC and meeting the challlenge. It does give you sense of how it might feel living in an urban/city environment, if you happen to look up. Feels more like a skyscape to me.

I'd compare this to a shot of an upward angle shot of a barn , but with no ground or doorway visible, mostly the top part of the roof and a window included, with the sky/clouds for negative space. Would that be on topic for Urban Landscapes? not particularly either. Close for some but not exactly what I'd be looking to shoot for the challenge.

I agree with CityMars. Every voter is going to have their own definition of what they expect for an Urban Landscape. I'm pretty sure my submission will not agree with most people... but I am hoping to challenge perception of what one expects out of a project challenge like this :) Most importantly though, having fun finding the right shot.

not panoramic but with something that show the city or a piece, an aspect, of the city. isn't need that is panoramic, for example in new york I have some idea(obviously is the idea that can have of new york a person that never seen it). a simple panoramic image couldn't be significative but something of interesting....

I think it comes down to what you think it resembles. Shoot for yourself and submit the image that you like the most and that in your opinion fits the challenge. The best you can do is be honest with yourself, What others judge and scores are unimportant.

I keep trying to tell myself that, but then I keep entering challenges anyway.

It's OK to enter, just don't be attached to getting good scores, or attached to the opinions of others.
What is important is that you are in the process of creation, and learning.
