Well, "theft" isn't the right term technically because you don't get anything. And by your definition, you'd be "stealing" from your friends every time you call them.

Given that we are probably not even talking about cents here it shouldn't be that big of a deal. And most people have plans that they hardly ever use fully, so you don't cause them any costs.

I'm more surprised that Walmart and Disney would offer such a service that is bound to be used mostly for prank calls...

Well, I'm not sure they are clear examplars of corporate ethics in action -- inaction, perhaps ... so maybe it's to be expected they'd jump in at the chance to rake in a few cents more here and there.

I don't think they are making any money with this service - on the contrary. They probably see it as a marketing tool that will allow them to sell more stuff to the kids (and this is where they rake in more than a few cents...).
