Did everyone already see this? I just thought it was funny.

Tom Bihn portable culture bags

with attached tag with the washing instructions in both English and French. The English is exactly what you would expect and so is the French, for the first 6 lines. The last three lines of French are most interesting. "We are sorry that our President is an idiot. We didn't vote for him."

Tom Bihn says that they didn't authorize the labels or check them before putting the bags up for sale.

Wanna hear a funny story about this?

My wife works at a major merchandiser catalog sales company. So, I forwarded a copy of the picture and comments to her. She had a laugh and forwarded it to the head of their packaging dept. He didn't get the joke and sent it to HIS superior. That person then called my wife and wanted to know about it, and also let her know that they did not carry this particular brand. She went to the Tom Bihn website and found this story. Just thought you might like to know. :)

The Label

PORT ANGELES, WA: Tom Bihn, a Port Angeles-based company that designs, manufactures and sells laptop bags, messenger bags, backpacks and briefcases, attaches a wash-care label inside most of products it sells.

Because Tom Bihn products are sold into Canada, the care instructions are in English and French. It was discovered this week that the French translation continues after the washing instructions to read: "NOUS SOMMES DESOLES QUE NOTRE PRESIDENT SOIT UN IDIOT. NOUS N'AVONS PAS VOTE POUR LUI." Translated, the message reads, "'We are sorry that our president is an idiot. We didn't vote for him.'"

Apparently, the message began as an inside joke among seamstresses and staff at the Tom Bihn factory, intended to poke fun at company's founder and president, Tom Bihn, who recently incorporated the company and was elected its president.

Tom Bihn, the President of TOM BIHN INC., has issued the following statement:

"I am terribly sorry that this inside joke has been misconstrued to be a slur on any other president. The joke is on me, and I think it's funny."

Tom Bihn products are proudly made in Port Angeles, WA, U.S.A.

Note: Feelings run strong on this issue. If you have something to say, we want to hear it. You may email us at inquiries@tombihn.com or post in our forums.

Too bad (or good) for them, but I doubt all the news agencies that ran the story went back and pointed out that it is actually about Tom Bihn and not Bush.
I saw it on my local news. They did get some free publicity out of it. Quite a few people on the forum where I found the picture were going to order from them just because of the tag.

So which major merchandiser does your wife work for, Glen? and can she give me a discount? :)

(on a side note, the fact that the whole website blog that had the picture and story has disappeared only confirms my conspiracy theory)

Did anyone else see the whole thing on David Letterman where they showed a video clip of a kid behind the President during a speech? The kid was yawning and about to fall over asleep. Then the whitehouse said that it was an edited video, and Letterman denied it. It went on and on. Then, when it was proven to be a real video, the whitehouse said they never said it wasn't.

She told me I was not to use the name of her company. But confidentially it's stock ticker on the NYSE is JCP.
