Not sure about others, but I know mbrutus was purely after some feedback on his entry which was given, to be totally honest I did not even know he was submitting here until that post, I have never voted on any pictures where I know the owner and never will (this even includes shots like TimfytheToo's where he or his kids star in a large percentage of his entries and Judi's shot for her occupation - even though I would have scored both highly), I also do not vote on challenges I have entered an image - personally I sincerely hope that if people are found to be "voting up" on friends images that action would be taken on the account as we all take time and effort to submit to these challenges and the voting should be as fair as possible.

ETA Spelling and Grammer as always ;)

You might know the owner. I know that Judi hangs out with several other DPCers in her area and it can happen that someone else enters an image that you may think is Judis but isnt. Same in my area here. Just because you may recognize a model doesnt mean that you recognize the photographer.

That's a true and valid point, however I would rather not vote to keep it fair and be pleasantly surprised afterwards. I can see it affecting votes both negatively and positively if you believe you know who the photog is, so for that reason I prefer to let my feelings about the image be the judge of how I score it.

I wouldn't post my entry to a challenge anywhere until after voting, as I'd not want someone from DPC to see it, for example on my deviantART and have that sway their vote.

I vote on friends' work, as do they mine but we wouldn't just hand each other automatic 10s; we give whatever vote we feel the photo deserves. I'm happy to vote on pics when I know who took it because I trust myself not to vote in a biased manner. It's easy if you just don't discuss your vote with friends.

No LadyT neither would I, I have one person whose views I trust and ask their opinion on my entry or which they feel is the better shot if I have more than one, I know this person never votes on my entry and I send him the images on that understanding.

I trust myself not to inflate someones score but it's far harder to be truly critical of a friends work so in effect I could be inflating their score indirectly if you follow my meaning.

But anyway lol back to the scores on the doors:

Creeping up, still not where I believe this shot should be but I am hoping for some feedback after the voting to see what errors were made (in other peoples eyes of course :p).

I'm still hoping some more people will come forward with their opinions, though I'm already sure where I went wrong with my entry.

On the previous topic of posting challenge entries elsewhere:

-If I know whose entry it is in advance of the challenge, I will skip the vote. If I figure out whose it is because of their style or subject, well, I could be mistaken in my guess. I vote on those.

-If something is intended for a challenge, I may post it privately for feedback. All the DPC members that are also on Flickr will not see it.

-Sometimes I will enter something in a freestudy when it gets some attention on Flickr and I decide it may be good enough. I trust DPC members to skip the vote if knowing whose it is may influence the vote.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one waiting on feedback. 74 votes / 132 views with no comments. Being my first challenge entry I'm not sure if this is normal. After a quick dip to 5.07 I'm back to 5.14 which I'm happy with as I was thinking it would be low 5's.

No new comments, very few votes today.

I've actually kicked and screamed and crawled my way up to a 5.41 over the last couple of days (from a low point of 4.9).

So I might not take as much of a hit to my half-decent newbie average as I thought. Phew.

I'm starting to think no-one is really bothered about this challenge; I've got 1 comment, only 159 views and less than a hundred votes (60 or so of which were given in the first 18 hours) and from the sounds of things, most of us entered into the challenge are in the same boat.

Why the sad face. Last time you posted it was 6.5+ and you have all those comments and even a favorite. Has to be an interesting/good shot.

Seems to be hovering in this range now. Up a little, down a little , up a little down a little,... I may be able to hold onto this.

Thought I had a cool shot - not terrific but a little something. Lucky if I get a 5. One comment.

Pretty much what I expected; maybe even a little higher.

For everyone who is whinging about no comments...how about you go out there and comment on all the entries...before you know it...you will also have received some comments on your own entry. Try it...you may just like it...and learn something in the process.

I commented on over half of the entries but I needed a break before I went mad trying to think of constructive things to say, so I'll start again tomorrow. I'm pretty useless at writing helpful comments....but I don't always want to just write 'nice'.
