I think Getty does have a future, but it will be a very different looking one. I essentially see the stock photography industry finally forming a pyramid of sorts (big cheap base, working up to a narrow expensive top). Most industries have this kind of pyramid shape. Stock photography, for decades, never seemed too. I think Getty's future will be something more along the lines of boutique commercial images.
One thing is for sure though, you'll have to to continue buying RM stock if you want higher production values, like location shoots, etc... Many former macro photographers are making big money on micro stock, but they have all noted how terribly important it is to do studio shoots and keep costs low, it all equals lower production values. So I think there is still a market for RM, it's just gonna be smaller, because quite honestly, the vast majority of people in this world work on smaller budgets, which is why people are making so much money off micro stock (the ones who understand the industry and work accordingly that is).
