With the very tragic news of ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' jonfrommk's passing I wanted to take the time today to say how very much I care for many of the people here.

I'm sure I'm not alone.

I'm sure many of us 'know' people here, who although not geographically close, are close to our hearts. Friends we catch up with every day, week or in some cases month, that we'd gladly include in our physical social circle in our life outside of the net.

I LOVE this community - for me it's been nothing but positive.

I LOVE that I have quirky friends - who uplift my life and creativity in ways that people I love in my real life don't and can't.

I LOVE random PM's from people I admire.

I LOVE the lack of 'neediness' my friends here offer me. That our friendships are respectful, sharing, genuine, but never 'have to' kinds of friendships.

I LOVE knowing that when someone PM's me I don't have to send them a Thank You PM, and then they feel they have to send me a 'Your Welcome' PM, and I have send them a 'No Problem' PM - what a relief!

I LOVE the ebbs and flows of the friendships I have, the passing each other with a few words every now and then, whether it be on the forum, or as comments on pictures or PM's. But still KNOWING that those feelings and emotions are 'real' even though they are seemingly only typed letters.

I LOVE the 'knowing' that people care that I exist here, and value my creativity.

I am SO GRATEFUL for all of you that have touched my life.

And with Jon's passing, I'm wanting to say to you today - that IF some day you're no longer here, that you'll be missed by me. That YOU factor into my thoughts in my real life, and that even though your 'real' family and friends don't know me - I feel like I know you - and you mattered to me.

I WISH so desperately that I could say that to ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' jonfrommk today.

But in his honor, I'm saying it in an open letter to those of you who've crossed my path as he did. Randomly, sincerely, irreverently and caringly.

YOU have enriched my life - and I THANK YOU.

Jon - I hope wherever you are, that you're feeling my sentiments.

Well said, Lisa! I find my friends here, no matter how casual, are more near and dear than most of those that are physically next door to me. There is never a shortage of support, comedy, love, understanding, help, and just "being there"...human qualities and emotions that we all need and appreciate.
I am not one of those that many know, but I "know" many of you and to those that I have ever touched and those that have reached out to me, no matter how small the gesture, you are special and important in my life.

Thank you Lisa, for the thread and for sharing an often unsaid feeling here. You are special!!

Lisa, thank you so much for that beautiful post. It expresses so much how I also feel about my friends in this community that means so much to me. You're so right, some friends we've never had a face-to-face meeting or hug, but our hearts are as connected, if not more so, than people I see every day in real life.

Thank you, my dpc family, for being such a source of comfort and encouragement. Especially when our hearts are broken.

And yes, Ken, that was a very powerful ditto. My sentiments exactly.

((( Big warm hugs )))
Sandy

It is so strange but I hadn't heard from him in a couple of months, and for some reason the past few days, I have thought so many times that I wanted to pop him a note and tell him I was thinking about him and hoping he was doing okay. Auuuuuggggh. . .it is so sad!

Same here... and I didn't. He must have been sending out some vibes to all of us.

Lisa - a very beautiful post...

Didn't know Jon or learn of his passing until this thread, but I pray for God's comfort to all who he touched and his family and friends suffering this loss.

You're not alone in your sentiments, Lisa. Damn fine bunch of people hang here, in my opinion, and I've had the good fortune to meet quite a few of you in person. I *will* get to Australia one of these days....

I tried to talk Jon into coming to the GTG I went to in London. He really wanted to make it but Daisy was his priority and he didn't think she'd enjoy it as much as he might have.

For those of you who do have the opportunity, attend a GTG or two, or three. Meet the people you know here in person when you can. Keep in touch.

Hugs, Lisa!

Lisa, your spot on with your words. Even though I dont enter many challenges these days this community is so much more than about photography. I did not know Jon but from what I have read he was a good man who made many friends here. His family will be in my thoughts.

It is very strange - I had the same feeling as you folks and did send him a PM just a few days ago - picking on him for not checking in and strong arming him to show his bright shiny face. I guess we were all thinking of him and his family.

It's funny because for the past month or so, I have had this resurgence of interest on DPC. I always said that when I was disgusted with the challenge trends, my love for my friends here has never waivered. I have been so lucky to have made some of my dearest friends here, and that's the truth! for friendship lingers forever
even when the friend has gone

Lisa, thank you for your beautiful thoughts. So true. Most of you who have become my friends I've never met in the flesh, yet there is a bond that is strong. Never stronger than when one of ours passes on. I'm heartened that many of us had Jon on our minds, tried to get in touch with him, or went to his profile page to see where he's been. I take that to mean he was reaching out to us before he left.

Lisa this sentiment is exactly how I feel about DPC abd all of the wonderfully supportive friends I have met here. I may not have met most of you in person but you still are near and ear to me. My life is a better place because of DPC. I can not say that about many other places or things.

A lovely, and very appropriate, post by Lisa. I'm particularly feeling my own mortality right now, after my heart episodes, and hearing that Jon (nearly 20 years my junior) has passed does give me pause for reflection...
