Ha! My wife and I said the same thing last night. Adam was undoubtedly thinking, "I may not have won, but at least I don't have to sing that stupid song." It seems like every year they come up with a worse and worse closing song.

Hmmm. So you and your wife voted for Kris so Adam wouldn't win?

Sorry, but I have a hard time believing that fans of Adam would throw the vote intentionally. Sounds like face saving talk to me.

No, we do not vote at all. And I wasn't being serious... I think the point we're feebly trying to make through the attempted use of humor is that the closing song sucked.

Sorry if I missed your intent. Just a little earlier I was reading the blog on the AI website and this same thought was posted a time or two, and not in a joking manner. There's some that are pretty darn ticked off. Of course that happens every year...

I often wonder if the people in the top 5 or so really want to actually win in the first place. I mean, what exactly does the winner get? There's never much of any mention of what the winner gets, beyond a record deal and the "title of American Idol."

Does a serious artist really want the "title of American Idol?" I think many of them probably find that title to be a little cheesy, really. We've seen a couple previous winners who have tried to distance themselves from the show for that reason.

If you're in the top 5, you're gonna get a record deal anyway, and perhaps with fewer obligations to AI in the long run. If I were Adam Lambert, I'd probably be pleased as punch not to have won. Losing didn't exactly seem to hurt Clay Aiken.

I guess I don't get this whole "I'm pissed off about the final results" thing. This is not like a real vote anyway...if it was, it would be one person one vote. For example, there was a news story in my area about one young woman (in her 20s or 30s) placed about 50000 votes for Adam on Tuesday night (using a bunch of pre-paid cards). How is this equitable, and why would you put out so much effort for something that really does not matter in the long run?

Adam will do very well, especially if he does the glam rock thing or front a band like Queen. And Kris will have a really nice career putting out some nice quiet and soulful music.

Excellent point...

Here in Pittsburgh, some of our radio talk hosts have been going all nuts this week, complaining that "more people vote for American Idol than those who vote in elections." Well, that's a big distortion for the reasons you mentioned. There may have been nearly 100 million votes cast this week, but that hardly means that they were cast by 100 million different people. The show never even makes that claim. They always say that "X number of votes were cast."

A news report on KDKA radio this morning had it wrong, saying "100 million people" voted for the winner... and that's simply not even close to being true. I would be very surprised if 10% of that number represented individual voters.

All I can say in Conway, AR is very proud of Kris I loved every minute of the show. :)

I actually read an article on this the other day, but I can't locate it now. Gist of the article was that the also-rans have consistently outperformed the Idols, career-wise, and largely for the reasons you're implying.

Come on...neither Kris or Adam will be as successful as Fantasia....she is the best of all Idols.
