I think everybody is disqualified :)

We regret to inform you that your submission to the Free Study 2009-03 challenge (****** ) has been disqualified for the following reason:

You may not use ANY editing tool to create new image area, objects or features (such as lens flare or motion) that didn't already exist in your original capture.

Your entry has been reviewed by the Site Council and/or Administrators, who have confirmed that your submission must be disqualified.

Thank you for your continued participation in DPChallenge, and please do not let this deter you from submitting photographs for future challenges!

Well they got me too. hehe I feel a bit embarrassed that I fell for it. Oh well. The SC will have plenty of emails with explanations about images to look through if they have some free time on their hands :)

Really, not funny. Oh well. Mine's getting hammered so I was kinda of hoping they would take it off!

I think it was funny. Then again, I wasn't fooled. I'm surprised how many people got angry! Perhaps that before-the-afternoon-rule is a good guideline to go by afterall.

Edit: spelling.

I was angry for a split second.

You can always tell when there are dpc users on the aircraft. After the engines are turned of, you can still hear the whining.

I have to say I should have known and checked the site before getting mad but I am still Peeed off, this really isnt funny especially first thing in the morning, and as someone said before, the joke is on the prankster as it was sent after noon on the 1st.

If it was site council then I hope they have their PCs jammed with validations, RAW files and e-mails of protest. Oh yes I do normally have a sense of humor but not today.

You misspelled "winning". But, you wouldn't know about that. Congratulations on your new consultant/advisor role to the SC. Very successful influence, you've had!

I'm glad I checked the forum before pressing send. I was in the middle of an email protesting my DQ then realized that this was probably a joke. What made me think this was that I was never asked for my original and it wasn't even 48 hours since the contest began. Needless to say I read the email on my Blackberry and was pissed on my way in to work.

OH Man!! I was ready to post a nasty nasty post. Glad I saw this right before i did.

Although..with my score, a DQ might have been a benefit.

Since my DQ was for adding text, it was pretty clear very quickly that it was a joke.

HOWEVER, it would have been more humorous if the joke's impact had actually been on the 1st.
04/02/2009 09:18:16 AM · #41
I figured it was a joke right away. For one, my picture has no lens flare. And it was still there with the same crappy score. So I kind of knew it was not a real email.

Oh Brother, i got the same notice- pouring over ever detail trying to figure out what i did wrong..Then notice my shot is still in and finally saw the thread..

How do u spell relief??
04/02/2009 09:28:59 AM · #43
My first thought was that I hadn't sent in an original. Then I thought maybe they emailed the wrong person--but the title was mine. I figured it out before I sent off any emails! I just wonder if someone was playing around with the scores--started at 6.3 and now down to 5.4.

I like the joke from a few years back. When I got up and checked DPC, one of my worst scoring photos ever was on the front page saying something like "this photo has been chosen...blah...blah"

I really thought someone put it up on the front page !!!

Haha! At first I thought raish might be offended by this, but since he's got such a keen sense of humor I realized he would take it in good stride.

Well I got an apology email, anyone else?

Yes, I received a "quasi-apology" email this morning, too! But, it's now unclear whether it's truthful and sincere, or something else. When an organization's management and supervisors play tricks on their customers, it's hard to tell when they've reverted back to credibility. It's really too bad. All the goodwill and esprit de corps generated by the great 1000th challenge has been reversed and trashed. Guess they couldn't stand the prosperity.

It's all in good fun. April 1st is a day to stay on your toes and not to believe too much and not take things so seriously.

I probably would have fallen for it if it wasn't for the thread. Good try though Langdon! ;-)
